Before joining Recovery Corps, Dom was working temp jobs and exploring different career paths. Today, he is in his third year of service and has become a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist! Dom is passionate about using his own lived experience to help others and give them hope for recovery. "I felt that my lived experience would be the living proof that someone might need to see for themselves. They could believe recovery is possible because they know someone who has recovered."

Tracy was born and raised in Minnesota, but spent much of her adult life traveling to different states with her husband, who served in the military. During that time, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant, then became a stay-at-home mom to her four children. She recently returned to her hometown, and that's when she heard about Heading Home Corps. Tracy decided to become a Housing Resource Navigator because of her previous volunteer experience at a food shelf. "I like celebrating the small and big wins of our days, and just being there for each other," she says.

A few weeks into the service year, Tracy says she's already noticed the difference her time makes when her participants show up smiling and excited to share their progress. We're grateful to have incredible people like Tracy making an impact around the state. Thank you for choosing to serve!

We have exciting news to share! Reading Corps, Math Corps, and Early Learning Corps are proud recipients of a Community Grant from the Taco Bell Foundation! The funds will help us provide proven tutoring to more Minnesota students in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area — ensuring they have the skills needed to succeed in the classroom and community.

While serving in local schools, tutors not only help boost student achievement, but also gain experience and explore new career pathways in education. These local investments are made possible every time you round up your total at a Taco Bell Restaurant, where funds go to support youth scholarships and organizations like ours!

Tutors choose to serve at a school full-time or part-time, and earn a paycheck, plus additional money for tuition or student loans.

As a third-year Reading Tutor in Stockbridge, Georgia, Miranda was motivated to join Reading Corps because of her interest in early childhood education. She especially enjoys bringing a mix of perspectives and ideas to her daily work with students. "Returning to serve felt like the right way to build on my past experience while staying connected to work that matters to me," she explains.

By placing Housing Resource Navigators across Minnesota nonprofits and public agencies, more people receive one-on-one guidance and access to vital housing resources. Last year, more than 2,700 individuals received housing support!

We'd like to introduce Bertina! This week, she is beginning her second year of service as a Housing Resource Navigator. Bertina is a mother and grandmother, a Licensed Social Worker, business owner, and minister. When considering retirement, Bertina thought: "I still have a lot to give to my community." That's what led her to serve with Heading Home Corps!

A stand out moment from Bertina's first term was when she was able to help a family reunite. This year, she says she is looking forward to learning, growing, and connecting with others.

Welcome back to the Heading Home Corps team, Bertina, and thank you for choosing to serve!
