Meet Rich, a first-year Reading Tutor in Fresno, California! After putting his college education on hold for a few years, he was looking for a meaningful opportunity to get involved in his community. He soon discovered Reading Corps, and his curiosity led him to serve.

Rich says his favorite part of service is his relationship with students. Knowing that they are just as excited to see him every day as he is with them is one of his favorite feelings. After service, he plans to enroll in school to continue his sociology degree.

Thank you, Rich, for your commitment to creating brighter futures for Fresno students!

Danni’s decision to serve with Reading Corps came from their passion for working with children. An aspiring paraprofessional and former Personal Care Assistant, the recent high school graduate is no stranger to supporting others. This year, Danni’s enjoying seeing students make progress as they become stronger, more confident readers.

A first-year member, Danni expresses how rewarding it is to know that tutoring is helping more children advance in their reading skills. “Seeing my kids exit and succeed is so fulfilling,” Danni says. “I love allowing them to teach me what they know while I share my knowledge with them.

After service wraps up, Danni plans to use the Segal AmeriCorps Education award to earn a paraprofessional license. Thank you for the care and support you put into your work with students, Danni. We are so happy you chose to become a tutor!

For this week's , we're shining a light on Diana, an experienced Reading Corps tutor with a lifelong passion for community service and literacy education. With a background in human resources, staff development, and volunteer program leadership, Diana has spent decades mentoring youth, adults, and seniors—and continues to bring that same dedication to her service with young readers.

"I look forward to getting to know and supporting the students," Diana shares. She's seen that impact ripple outward, including one moment when a student she knew from guest reading in her class grew into a confident reader. The student even became a guest reader for fellow readers!

Diana plans to use her Segal AmeriCorps Education Award to continue her own education in nonprofit management and grant writing. Thank you for the creativity and experience you bring to your service, Diana!
