Last week, community members gathered on our block to celebrate a step towards a land transfer years in the making.

This MPR piece highlights the path that led Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and Indigenous Protector Movement toward this relationship, and shares a glimpse of what IPM plans to do with the property when they join our shared campus later this year.

Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in south Minneapolis is transferring ownership of a property to Indigenous-led organization, Indigenous Protector Movement. The two groups came together Friday afternoon for a ceremony and to sign documents in front of the community.

This Friday, Indigenous Protector Movement and Our Saviour's Lutheran Church will be hosting a public event to honor a historic step toward land donation. Please come and join OSCS in celebrating this significant event taking place on our block. Don't forget to bring something to screenprint!

Join us for a day of ceremony, community, and commitment as we gather for the official Land Transfer to Indigenous Stewardship through signing of the land donation agreement ⚡️

On May 22nd, Indigenous Protector Movement and Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church will come together to recognize a historic step toward Indigenous-led community stewardship and healing in South Minneapolis. This gathering will include ceremony, a press conference, the signing of the land donation agreement, and community fellowship.
This space will become part of a larger vision rooted in Indigenous leadership, safety, healing, organizing, and long-term community care.
We invite community members, relatives, organizers, faith leaders, media, and supporters to stand with us for this important moment.

This is about more than property transfer. It is about relationship, responsibility, healing, and building a future where urban Indigenous communities can continue protecting and caring for one another on our own terms.

Good food, great company, and lots of gratitude! Last Thursday, we had the joy of celebrating our amazing volunteers and all they do. While we value our volunteers 365 days a year, this event gave some of our volunteers the chance to meet our new Volunteer Coordinator, Zoe!

Volunteers at Our Saviour's Housing and the English Learning Center are such a valued part of our community. Thank you for everything that you do!

We recently held our annual All-Staff Meeting in April - a full day dedicated to learning and spending time with each other outside of our day-to-day work. Each year, this meeting is a reminder of who we are as an organization and a great way to launch into spring!

At the English Learning Center, the majority of our classes are taught by volunteer teachers, including Russ and Val, who teach our upper-level classes. Fun fact: Russ was a volunteer teacher at the ELC in the early '90s while he was in college and began volunteering again as soon as he retired. We appreciate the dedication that our volunteers bring to our community each and every day!

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, and we know OSCS wouldn’t be the same without our amazing volunteers!
We’re grateful to the dedicated volunteers who teach classes in the English Learning Center, serve meals in our emergency shelter, and help out wherever they are needed. Our programs couldn’t run smoothly without them!
