When Jennifer Kinkade was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer, she chose to look for silver linings along the way despite experiencing many complications. After receiving support from her ABCD Mentor that was exactly what she needed, she’s now training for a triathlon with Aurora Health Care’s Team Phoenix and hopes to become a Mentor too.

"I am so excited to be able to support someone the way that people supported me and to give back like that." πŸ’¬

That's the power of peer-to-peer support. Read Jenn’s full story here: https://abcdbreastcancersupport.org/our_stories/jennifer-kinkade-looking-for-the-silver-linings-after-breast-cancer/

πŸŽ‰ Today, ABCD celebrates 27 years! πŸ’œ

On June 15, 1999, Emmy award-winning Milwaukee journalist Melodie Wilson Oldenburg (1950-2009) founded ABCD with a simple but powerful vision: "No one should go through breast cancer alone."

After sharing her own diagnosis on live TV, a bold move at a time when breast cancer was rarely discussed openly, Melodie saw firsthand how many people lacked access to personalized emotional support. Determined to change that, she stepped away from her broadcasting career and created ABCD.

What began with 23 volunteer Mentors serving Southeast Wisconsin has grown into a fully virtual organization providing free, one-to-one emotional support to anyone impacted by breast cancer, anywhere, at any stage. Melodie passed away from metastatic breast cancer in 2009, but her legacy lives on through the support ABCD provides every day.

Here's to 27 years of creating one-to-one connections that make all the difference for anyone facing breast cancer! Connection is more than what we do, it's our superpower.

We showed up with ABCD Pride bracelets, candy, and signs, and we left with full hearts.

Thank you to everyone who waved, cheered, smiled, and celebrated with us at the Milwaukee Pride Parade this past Sunday. We were proud to be there sharing a simple message: if you're part of the LGBTQIA+ community and facing breast/chest cancer, ABCD is here to support you.

Special thanks to ABCD Mentors Ellen Benson, Georgianna Coursume, Dawn Nimtz, and Kelly Thomas for helping us spread that message throughout the parade route.

Happy Pride! πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

Everyone deserves access to support that reflects their lived experience and identity.

That's why ABCD is expanding support within the LGBTQIA+ community through our upcoming LGBTQIA+ New Mentor Training on June 17 from 6:00–8:00 PM CT. 🌈 πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

If you're an LGBTQIA+ person who’s been impacted by breast or chest cancer, whether as a previvor, someone with a Stage 0-3 diagnosis, a thriver living with Stage 4 metastatic disease, or even a caregiver, consider becoming an ABCD Mentor. By sharing your experience, you can help someone like you feel seen, understood, and less alone.

The training is virtual, so you can participate from anywhere. πŸ’»

What a day at the Milwaukee Milkmen game! ⚾

We had a blast on June 7 cheering on the Milkmen with our community while raising awareness and support for ABCD's mission.

A special shoutout to ABCD Mentor Wendy Kramer, who threw out the first pitch, and to Mentor Mary Fassbender, Participant Melissa Rivera, and Board members Lisa Gibb and Linda Hansen who joined ABCD staff to table throughout the game.

We're grateful to everyone who purchased tickets, and tried their luck in the 50/50 raffle, ball toss, Spin-to-Win, and yard games. Every dollar raised helps ABCD provide free, personalized one-to-one emotional support to people impacted by breast cancer.

And thank you to the ROC Foundation for making this game benefiting ABCD possible. We appreciate your partnership and support! πŸ’œ

National Cancer Survivors Day is a celebration of life. It's also a reminder that survivorship is often more complex than people realize.

While more people are living longer after cancer than ever before, many continue to face ongoing physical side effects, anxiety, depression, financial challenges, and uncertainty about the future. The end of treatment doesn't always mean the end of the impact.

ABCD believes no one should have to navigate these challenges alone. Through our free, one-to-one peer support, we connect anyone impacted by breast cancer with someone who understands because they've been there, too.

Today, we celebrate every survivor and thriver, honor every story, and reaffirm the power of connection in healing.

And if you need support, we're here. Reach out to us:
