Our mission is to increase awareness of Milwaukee’s history, architecture and the preservation of the built environment. We are the only nonprofit provider of guided walking tours in Milwaukee. Our signature events include Remarkable Milwaukee in February, Spaces & Traces in May, and Doors Open in September. The Historic Milwaukee store is located at the corner of Michigan and Broadway. The store carries hundreds of book titles as well as Milwaukee themed gifts.

Interested in exploring the churches of Milwaukee? Join us on Friday, September 11th at 1pm for our Wisconsin Avenue Churches Tour. Explore nine exterior church sites and interiors of selected buildings when available, learning how Gothic Revival, Northern European Gothic, Lombard and Victorian Romanesque, and Byzantine Revival styles reflect the city’s ethnic and religious history from the late 1860s through the 1920s.

Calling all Doors Open Milwaukee fans! Join this great city-wide open house event as a volunteer greeter on September 26th & 27th. Doors Open Milwaukee works with 400+ volunteers to help to greet and assist visitors at 190+ sites throughout Milwaukee.

Volunteer benefits include a badge which lets you skip the lines at busy Doors Open sites; discounts to the Historic Milwaukee store and membership; and a new 2026 limited edition Doors Open sticker.

Downtown Milwaukee's narrative has most often focused on the stories of Milwaukee's three founders, omitting the many contributions of women. Are you familiar with the North Point Historic District? Maybe you’ve taken our popular tour before. Prepare to find out even more with our three-part, deep-dive over three consecutive weeks. Even if you’ve done the tour before, you’ll see new places, learn new stories, and do it at a leisurely pace. This is the last chance to catch this series for the year.

Part 1 – Back Bay Mansions (Sept. 5) – This tour explores the mansions of Back Bay, along with the history of how the east side got started, early women in baseball and the arrival of cars to the neighborhood.

Part 2 – Newberry Boulevard: From Lake Park to Riverside Park (Sept. 12) – Riverside Park and Lake Park are the green jewels of the east side and Newberry Boulevard was created to showcase them, lining its widened street with homes to be envious of. This tour will stroll from Lake Park to Riverside Park along Newberry Blvd.

Part 3 – North of North Point (Sept. 19) – Beginning at the North Point Lighthouse, take a walk around Wahl, Belleview, and Lake, where the neighborhood moves north and the styles become more eclectic.
