Topic: "Memphis Stormwater Quantity and Quality Program (MSQ2)"

Registration: CLICK HERE!

The Memphis Stormwater Quantity and Quality (aka MSQ2) program is tasked with the implementation of stormwater capital improvement projects within the City of Memphis. Created in 2020, the program has taken suggestions from the City’s Drainage Masterplan Study program (initialized in 2014), citizen concerns, maintenance requests, and computer modeling to identify, prioritize, and optimize projects that address flooding issues throughout the City. With approval and input from City of Memphis decision makers, the program works with design firms to prepare and deliver the projects for construction. As the program finishes it’s 6th year, over 400 projects have been identified and evaluated, with over 50 that have advanced to design and construction. Projects are prioritized based on their impact to citizens and critical infrastructure using a prioritization matrix that provides for equitable comparison of the risk reduction provided. Other portions of the program include a condition assessment and mapping program of all City-maintained drainage infrastructure as well as the pursuit of alternative funding opportunities to fund program activities or construction projects. This presentation will provide the current status of the Memphis Stormwater Program with more detailed information provided for selected projects.

Please RSVP by June 9, 2026, so we can get an accurate head count for lunch.

Our February meeting was held at Ensafe, and was well attended. The speaker was JT Malasri, P.E. founder of Malasri Engineering. JT presented an overview of the Accelerate Memphis: Activating Memphis 3.0 initiative. J.T. discusses specific strategies used to speed up delivery and how those methods established a permanent framework for future municipal work. Thank you J.T. for your work to improve the region's infrastructure development. It was also wonderful to have Dr. Roger Meier with us at the meeting.

ASCE West TN January Branch Meeting
Dear West Tennessee ASCE Member,

You are cordially invited to our ASCE West TN January Branch Meeting at Ensafe, which will be held in-person on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm. Ryan Bates, P.E. Business Development Manager at Marubeni’s New Energy Department.

Ryan will be delivering a presentation on Renewable Natural Gas (RNG)—a highly relevant topic for our region given that Shelby County currently hosts two operating RNG systems. These facilities capture methane from local landfills, refine it, and inject it directly into transmission systems.

Presentation Highlights:

RNG Fundamentals: How biogas is sourced, produced, and utilized.
Decarbonization: The role of RNG in reducing GHG emissions and energy transition.
Municipal Benefits: Understanding environmental attributes and how RNG production generates revenue for municipally owned facilities.
Future Outlook: Emerging trends and the evolution of RNG markets.
