A lot of what happens at Phoenix Family doesn't make it onto social media. So much of our work happens in meetings, paperwork, and quiet, behind-the-scenes moments. But every so often, something happens that's just too good not to share.

At East Hills, our Wellness Collective classes wrapped up after six weeks, and our service coordinator there had this to say:

"Today, as the workout ended and the ladies were giving each other high fives and celebrating what they had accomplished, I found myself tearing up a little. It was a simple reminder that community can still be built, sometimes just by showing up in the same room every week."

Residents showed up, pushed themselves, and built real friendships along the way. And the best part? They're not stopping. Starting this week, the group (self-named the "East Hills Hotties" 😅) will keep meeting for Women's Fitness in the gym every week.

Some of our favorite moments happen exactly like this: quietly, consistently, and one Wednesday at a time.

When kids stop learning over the summer, it can be harder to start the school year feeling confident and prepared.

At HIKE, we take a different approach.

Our summer Reading Labs help students strengthen their reading skills through activities that are engaging, interactive, and fun. From games to hands-on projects, learning is woven into the experience so naturally that it often feels like play.

That's what summer learning should be all about.

Today is International Day of Play — and honestly, these kids are already way ahead of us.

At HIKE, we believe that helping kids become strong readers is important. So is making sure they get to just be kids. The laughter, the silliness, the moments that have nothing to do with anything academic — those matter too.

This week we kicked off summer, and if these smiles are any indication, we cannot wait to see what this crew gets up to over the next few months!

Here's to a summer full of play!!

Some of the most important things our volunteers do don't make it into the photos.

Behind a lot of the best moments at Phoenix Family, there's a volunteer who chose to show up.

They help at events, share a skill, or just spend time with residents — and that presence matters more than they probably know.

It's the conversations that run long, the small moments of connection, and getting to be the person who says yes. That part's tricky to capture on camera.

If you've been thinking about getting involved, we have several events coming up over the next few months and would love to have you. Link in the comments to learn more.

To every volunteer who has already shown up for us: thank you.

Some of our best work happens because of really good relationships.

A staff member who remembers your name. A neighbor who checks in just because. A friend who shows up when it matters.

On National Best Friends Day, we want to know — who's your person? Tag them below and let them know you're grateful for them. We'll start: we're pretty grateful for this whole community.

There's a quiet kind of relief that comes from opening your door and finding a box of food waiting on your doorstep.

No standing in line. No extra trip across town. Just the reassurance that there will be food in the pantry for the days ahead.

That's what this box represents.

A cardboard box may not look like much at first glance.

But to the person opening their door, it can mean one less worry, a little more stability, and the reminder that they're not facing life's challenges alone.

We're so grateful to Harvesters - The Community Food Network and our volunteers for showing up every Mobile Pantry delivery day. That feeling of relief for a resident makes it all worth it!

It's moments like this that make being a reading coach so special.

This summer, we want YOU!

Summer learning loss can be a real setback for so many kids, that's why we keep our reading labs going all summer long. So they can walk back into school in August confident and ready to learn.

You can be a part of seeing that confidence grow...sounding out one word at a time!

Interested in making a difference for a kid in your community? Be a volunteer with us and sign up at the link in the comments or contact Brady Mendoza, our Volunteer Coordinator, and you can be a part of moments like this!

The tea was hot. The conversations were even better!

Residents at Parallel Senior Villas spent time with guests from Chapman Insurance and ArchWell Health over tea. Laughter and stunning hats popcorned the room, it was a perfect afternoon!

At Phoenix Family, we know that belonging matters. Creating opportunities for residents to connect with one another and with caring community partners helps build the kind of supportive communities where people can thrive.❤

It's World Hunger Day...so what's one food you wouldn't want to go without? DROP YOURS IN THE COMMENTS!

Good food shouldn't go to waste — and it shouldn't be hard to access.

Through our Food Redistribution Network with Nourish KC Community Kitchen , surplus food from local providers is redirected to families, seniors, and pantry partners across Kansas City instead of going to waste.

That's neighbors helping neighbors. And we're grateful for every partner making it happen.
