It's World Hunger Day...so what's one food you wouldn't want to go without? DROP YOURS IN THE COMMENTS!

Good food shouldn't go to waste — and it shouldn't be hard to access.

Through our Food Redistribution Network with Nourish KC Community Kitchen , surplus food from local providers is redirected to families, seniors, and pantry partners across Kansas City instead of going to waste.

That's neighbors helping neighbors. And we're grateful for every partner making it happen.

Sometimes the most important parts of stability don't look big at all.

They look like parents having space to slow down and play with their children. Kids making friends just steps from home. Families comfortable enough to laugh, connect, and build community together.

Those moments matter. And at Phoenix Family, creating stable communities means caring for them too.

Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

As we reflect with gratitude this Memorial Day, we’re also reminded of the importance of community, care, and supporting one another, values that guide our work every day at Phoenix Family.

Please note that Phoenix Family offices will be closed today in observance of the holiday.

Last Friday we celebrated 20 YEARS of dedicated service for not one, but TWO of our staff members. We are so grateful for Jessica Welch our awesome Programs Director and Nicole McGee, one of our incredible Human Services Manager.

While those are their current roles, they have filled so many shoes over the years and we simply cannot thank them enough for all the meaningful contributions they have made that have changed the lives of countless residents. The impact of their years of dedication is integral to our organizational operations today.

In the telling of fond stories from years past, we added another one to the book when the power went out on the whole block in the middle of our celebration. But in Phoenix Family style, we adapted and used phone flashlights to keep the party going!

We had so much fun celebrating Jessica and Nicole, but it doesn't have to end just yet! Drop them some love in the comments or share any memories you have with them from over their years with Phoenix Family.

Phoenix Family is proud to be included as a 2026 United Way Impact 100 partner again this year.

Each year, United Way of Greater Kansas City selects 100 organizations to receive funding addressing the Kansas City community's most critical health and human service needs. For Phoenix Family, that means continuing to bring stable housing support, food access, children's literacy programs, and one-on-one help directly to the neighbors who need it most.

Thank you to United Way and to everyone who makes this work possible in Kansas City.

Thank you, Giving the Basics, for 13 years of partnership — and for putting it into words so well.

The families and older adults we serve every day know firsthand what access to the basics makes possible. We're glad to do this work alongside an organization that gets it.

It was so meaningful to spend time yesterday with Chelsea and Lacy from Phoenix Family, one of our incredible community partners since 2012. 💙

They shared stories of mothers, families, and seniors whose lives are being impacted by access to basic hygiene products — reminders that something as simple as soap or shampoo can restore comfort, confidence, and dignity.

These conversations are important because they show the real impact your support is making across Kansas City every single day.

For more than a decade, Phoenix Family and Giving the Basics have worked together to help neighbors facing hardship access the essentials many of us take for granted.

School may be nearly out, but our work is not slowing down. ☀️📖

Phoenix Family’s Reading Labs continue through the summer, and we are currently looking for volunteers to step in and support young readers who need extra encouragement and practice.

Summer learning loss is real, and consistent support can make a huge difference in helping children maintain the progress they worked so hard for during the school year.

Did you know? Food insecurity impacts 1 in 7 people in our region.

Earlier this month, Phoenix Family staff attended Feastival 2026, a community event supporting the fight against hunger in Kansas City.

Access to nutritious food helps families and seniors focus on everything else that matters: health, stability, school, and long-term goals. That’s why partnerships with organizations like Harvesters are such an important part of the work we do every day.
