From North Kansas City to Tonganoxie, thank you to all who were able to join us for our How to Pay for College Night last week. With new regulations in school, regarding personal technology, this year we're seeing some challenges in setting up FSA Ids and starting FAFSA applications during school hours. If you couldn't make it this event and need support with your college to-do, we encourage you to make an appointment via our website! https://www.hdfkc.org/fcpp-sign-up

As part of the scholarships we award, we have a small group that are funded by individual donors or organizations. These scholarships honor loved ones, encourage scholars pursuing a specific career path, support undocumented students, amongst other reasons.

Last week, we had the honor of bringing these donors together with the students receiving their scholarships. What we enjoy the most about making these connections happen is reminding students that it isn't just HDF believing in their journey, it's individuals, families, organizations and a whole community that want to see them succeed. Some that may have also navigated a similar journey and are now returning to pay it forward. A huge thank you to all the donors who made time for this inspiring evening, we couldn't do this work without you.

Shout out to Donnelly College for being an amazing host and Tamaleon KC for always bringing the delicious eats.

If starting your own scholarship piques your interest, reach out to Alejandra at [email protected].

Empanadas. Five college credits. A week immersed in campus life...all in Spanish.

This year, 15 HDF students participated in the Herencia Summer Bridge Program at Wichita State University. A huge shoutout to the WSU team for thoughtfully coordinating every aspect of the program, creating an experience where students could celebrate their heritage while continuing to grow. Throughout the week, students dove into lessons about Latin American culture, strengthened their Spanish, went on a mural tour, and even learned how to make empanadas.

Experiences like Herencia remind us that education and culture go hand in hand, and we're proud to walk alongside these students as they continue pursuing their goals.
