How a message is delivered can be just as important as the message itself.

In part two of Executive-Level Communication for Women Ready to Level Up, Sydney Parriott, founder of Speak Like a Professional, led a conversation on how cultural and social expectations can affect communication in the workplace.

Together, we explored the "double bind" many women face, along with strategies for responding to bias, setting boundaries, and ensuring credit is given where it is due. We also practiced techniques for strengthening delivery through vocal variety, intentional tone, and body language.

Thank you to Sydney for another engaging session and to everyone who joined us. We look forward to seeing you for the final session of the series in July! ✨

This Pride Month, we’re proud to highlight women leaders in the LGBTQ+ community who expanded leadership across sport, science, media, and literature. 💫

Billie Jean King brought advocacy into the world of sport.
Sally Ride opened doors in science and space for generations of girls who followed.
Janet Mock uses storytelling to center truth, visibility, and lived experience.
Audre Lorde wrote with clarity and courage, naming what others tried to ignore.

From them, we learn to push boundaries, challenge expectations, and do what we can to make it easier for the next woman to step forward. 💪

The You Were Never Meant to Shrink series kicked off with a reflection many women know well: we’re not lacking skill, we’re navigating expectations we didn’t choose for ourselves.

Led by Brandee Collins, Director of Prevention at MOCSA, the session explored how early messaging around being agreeable can carry into professional spaces, impacting our visibility and advancement.

Inspired by the song “Lady Lady" by Olivia Dean, we reflected on when we first learned to soften our voices and where we might be prioritizing being liked over being heard.

Thank you to everyone who joined part one and made space for such thoughtful conversation! Sign up for part two on 4/29 at centralexchange.org.

Joan Dillon helped preserve the Kansas City we know today.

Through her leadership in historic preservation, she protected and restored important sites, including the Folly Theater.

As an originating member of Central Exchange, Joan was part of a group of women who believed in the importance of civic engagement and community stewardship.

We’re proud to honor her legacy this Women's History Month! ✨
