Today, Westside Housing is one of the oldest and most respected community development corporations (CDC) in Kansas City, Missouri.

📊💬 Understanding how our City budget works matters because it’s our tax dollars at work.

Councilman Crispin Rea is sharing a helpful breakdown of how the City’s annual budget gets approved and where the public can plug in through hearings and the council process. This is exactly how we make sure our voices, especially our neighbors’ voices are heard before final decisions are made.

Take a look, get informed, and please share so more people in our community know how to participate in shaping our city’s future. 🏙️🗳️

🧣❄️ Prevent Hypothermia. Stay Safe in Cold Weather ❄️🧤

As temperatures drop, hypothermia can become a serious and life-threatening risk. Please take a moment to protect yourself, your family, and your neighbors.

Know the signs of hypothermia:
• Uncontrollable shivering
• Slurred speech or confusion
• Drowsiness or extreme fatigue
• Cold, pale, or bluish skin

How to stay safe:
✔️ Dress in layers, including a hat, gloves, and warm socks
✔️ Keep your home heated safely. Never use ovens or grills for warmth
✔️ Stay dry; wet clothing increases heat loss
✔️ Limit time outdoors in extreme cold
✔️ Check on elderly neighbors, children, and anyone living alone

⚠️ If someone shows signs of hypothermia, seek medical help immediately.
Early action can save lives.

Let’s take care of one another and stay warm. 💙
Please share to help keep our community safe.

❄️ Frigid Cold Weather Precautions ❄️
With dangerously cold temperatures for the next several days, please take a few simple steps to stay safe and protect your home:

🏠 Inside Your Home
• Keep heat set to at least 65°F, even if you’re away.
• Open cabinet doors under sinks to let warm air reach pipes.
• Let faucets drip slightly to prevent pipes from freezing.
• Use space heaters safely, keep them away from anything flammable and never leave them unattended.

🚰 Pipes & Water
• Know where your main water shut-off valve is located.
• If a pipe freezes or bursts, immediately shut main water valve off.

🧥 Personal Safety
• Limit time outdoors; dress in layers, hats, gloves, and warm footwear.
• Check on elderly neighbors, children, and anyone with health concerns.
• Bring pets indoors, no one should be left out in these temperatures.

⚡ Power & Emergencies
• Keep phones charged and flashlights handy.
• If you lose heat or power, seek a warming center or safe alternative location.

Please stay warm, stay safe, and look out for one another. 💙
