🎬 KAHILU — THE GIFT OF PLACE (World Premiere Screening)

For generations, Kahilu has been more than a stage.

It has been a gathering place for Waimea — a place where artists and audiences come together, where young people discover the performing arts, and where memories have been created across generations.

Now, a new original documentary from Kahilu.TV tells the story of this extraordinary place.

“Kahilu — The Gift of Place” explores the history of Kahilu Theatre, Richard Smart’s passion for theatre, and the impact his vision has had on Waimea and beyond.

Through personal interviews, archival photographs, and historic footage, the film brings together voices and memories from across the community to tell the story of how Kahilu came to be — and what it has meant to the people who have passed through its doors.

Join us for the premiere this Sunday at Kahilu Theatre.

Prepare to journey into the dark depths of Indigenous horror as *The Land Has Spoken: Tales of Indigenous Horror* comes to Kahilu Theatre for one unforgettable, spine-tingling evening.

Enter a world of curses, omens, menacing monsters, shapeshifters, and cunning tricksters as this remarkable theatrical experience explores the supernatural through the power of Indigenous storytelling.

Featuring works by award-winning Indigenous dark fiction writers Shane Hawk (enrolled Cheyenne-Arapaho, Hidatsa, and Citizen Potawatomi descent) and Andrea L. Rogers (citizen of the Cherokee Nation), the production brings traditional and contemporary Indigenous horror to the stage.

Directed by Kyla Tucaya Garcia (Taíno) and Andre Bouchard (of Kootenai, Ojibwe, Pend Oreille, and Bitterroot Salish descent), this chilling radio-style drama features an all-Indigenous cast of seasoned theatre, television, and film actors.

Their performances are accompanied by the spectral compositions of Chantil Dukart (T’simshian and Sugpiaq/Alutiiq) and eerie radio-style sound effects by Olympia-based sound designer Tuesday Mosshall.
