This is the planting at Konawaena elementary school. We currently have 50 different native Hawaiian species. With the help of the Hawaii County council we will get the money to increase the planting to over 100 species this spring. The Konawaena high school Leo club has taken the lead and devoted over 1000 hours of volunteer time over the last five years. Thanks also to Lions Club of Kona, Kona soil and water conservation, County of Hawaii and Konawaena elementary school. The school has recently hired an Aloha Aina teacher who will teach keiki about native plants! Greatt job to all!

Hungry for change? We can grow food in ways that restore our planet's health. Across forests, farms and seas, regenerative food production is helping reduce climate change and biodiversity loss.

These farming practices go beyond growing food—they actively restore nature in the process. Think cover crops, reduced tillage and agroforestry. These methods can help reduce emissions, prevent soil erosion, improve the quality of freshwater resources and support species diversity.

Unlike industrial agriculture, which often relies on intensive practices like excessive tilling and the heavy use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, regenerative agriculture emphasizes methods that enrich soils, enhance biodiversity, and sequester carbon in the soil.

By minimizing soil disturbances and promoting crop rotation, cover crops, and agroforestry, it helps reduce erosion, improve water retention, and decrease greenhouse gas emissions. 🌳
