Reminder that the DAR is offering a 2027 "American Revolution Legacy Grant", up to $5,000, for the 2026-2027 school year. The theme is "Shining Light on the Classroom: Honoring our Legacy of the American Revolution" and is open to educators and administrators from preschool to post-secondary school. Applications close tomorrow!

We had a wonderful, very productive meeting today as we installed a new member, created committees, updated members on special events as well as grant opportunities and other important information, and discussed parade planning and upcoming holiday events! Historian Jennifer Snell shared a lecture titled “Reflections on 9/11 from an FBI Special Agent”. Jennifer also handcrafted a beautiful quilt for one of our chapter members who is recovering from an injury.

Chapter member Teresa Fuata joined others at the Hilo airport this week to show love and support to the Korean War and Vietnam War veterans as they returned from their historic DC Honor Flight trip. Teresa greeted the veterans with handcrafted camouflage lei to welcome our heroes home!

Congratulations to Frederick Herrmann, STEM educator from Makua Lani Christian Academy in Kailua Kona, on receiving the Helen Pouch Memorial Fund Classroom Grant Award! Mr. Herrmann will use the award to purchase parts and equipment for the NASA HUNCH (High Schools United with NASA to Create Hardware) program. This program requires students to build workable prototypes through engineering design projects that if selected will go to the International Space Station or to the moon!

Applications for the 2026 fall semester grant are now being accepted.
