As horse owners and trainers, we care deeply about passing our skills, habits, and knowledge to the next generation About our instructors
Nancy Steinecke has a background in multiple facets of the horse world. Nancy barrel raced as a member of her undergraduate university Rodeo Team, managed equestrian centers on O'ahu and Maui. Nancy competed and trained to become a Licensed Official with the Un
ited States Equestrian
Federation in 1981 (known at that time as the American Horse Shows Association). Nancy has officiated in multiple disciplines over the years, including Judge and Steward in Hunter and Hunter Seat Equitation, and Judge and Technical Delegate in Dressage and Eventing. Nancy is currently a Judge in Dressage. She is one of only three judges in the state who have achieved that ranking. Nancy believes horses provide a wonderful venue to "ground" oneself in today's technologically intense world, and continues to teach horsemanship and equine behavior, and psychology to participants of all ages. She has been teaching and training horses on the Big Island for 40 years. In fact, she was one of Auntie Terri's childhood teachers! She continues to bring her invaluable knowledge and skills, patience, and diligence to both English and Western students. Terri Impson-Richards, who has been riding and training for 35 years, teaches and clinics regularly on the mainland and internationally. She was the first president of the American Junior Quarter Horse Association (AJQHA) in Hawaii and Team Silver Medalist at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, where she and teammate Nina Ligon were the first women to win an Eventing medal in the history of the Asian Games. Recently she has been working on mastering a new discipline, cutting, aboard her mare Honey Girl. She is beloved by English and Western students for her enthusiastic, positive teaching style. Karoll Penovaroff was born and raised in Kaimuki on Oahu. With her husband, Alex Penovaroff, she bred, trained, competed with, and sold champion cutters. It is her arenas and field we are privileged to use for our riding program. Karoll teaches barrel racing and cutting to adults and advanced Keiki. She brings excellent insight, grit, and a sense of humor to her work. Ashley Pendergast was born and raised in New England, where she Pony Clubbed and showed her own horses and others on the flat and over fences. She retired from competition in 1997 after winning a Gold Medal at USPC Nationals. After taking time off to have children Ashley is back in the (English, please) saddle. She teaches our youngest students with compassion, joy, and patience.
