BUT...
* 52% of adults in Hawaiʻi County believed it is “not at all difficult” for
children to obtain alcohol. AND
* About 22% of current users were able to purchase alcohol even though
they were underage. How can we improve those numbers? By giving kids Role Models, Not Bottles!

What is underage drinking?
21 is the legal drinking
age in all 50 States. Regardless of where, when or how much, it is illegal for minors to drink alcohol. If you allow anyone under 21 to drink alcohol, on your property or anywhere else, you are breaking the law, and can be held liable for their actions. Doctors know that young brains are still growing until about age 21. Underage drinking can cause brain damage and many other health and personal problems. THE GOOD NEWS
-Two-thirds of Hawaii's high school seniors do NOT drink.
-Most 6-12th graders on the island say their friends disapprove of weekend drinking.
-Talking to youth about drinking can double their chances of staying alcohol-free. What can I do?
-Be a good role model. Never offer alcohol to youth, or ask them to carry it. If you drink, drink in moderation and always have a designated driver.
-At family parties, make sure someone responsible is tending the bar or watching the cooler. No exceptions.
-Talk to young people in your family. Make sure they know you don't approve of underage drinking. "Kids Want Role Models, Not Bottles" is an equal opportunity program funded
through the County of Hawaiʻi, Hawaiʻi Department of Health, and the Substance
Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Substance Abuse
