We get these questions all the time:

“I don’t have kids. Can I come?”
“Can it just be me and my spouse or partner?”
“Can I bring my niece/nephew?”
“Can grandparents join?”
“My kids are grown, can I still come?”

And the answer is absolutely!

Black Kids Adventures was created to inspire Black families to experience the outdoors together, and our events are designed with families in mind. But not everyone in our community is actively raising young children.

Whether you’re a couple, an auntie or uncle, a grandparent, an empty nester, or simply someone who believes in the power of community and the joy of spending time outside, we’d love to have you.

Community doesn’t end when the kids grow up, and neither does the opportunity to connect, explore, and adventure together. No matter what season of family life you’re in, there’s a place for you in the BKA community.

👉🏾 Swipe to see some of the many ways family and community are represented within Black Kids Adventures.

Looking for ways to connect with Black Kids Adventures this week? We’ve got something for everyone!

✨ Stop by and say hello!
Find us at the Alabama A&M University Forestry Fair, right next to Smokey Bear! Stop by, snap a photo in our kayak, and spin the adventure wheel for inspiration for your next family outing.

🚣🏾‍♂️ End the week on the water
Join us for our Sunset Juneteenth Paddle! We’ve opened a few additional spots, so there’s still time to spend a beautiful evening on the water with the BKA community. This adventure is free, though donations are always appreciated.

🚶🏾‍♀️ Celebrate Father’s Day outside
In the spirit of Sundays on the Green, pack a picnic and take Dad to explore a new greenway, park, or favorite outdoor spot. Tag us in your photos so we can celebrate the fathers and father figures in your life right along with you.

No matter what your week looks like, there’s a place for you with BKA. Come explore, connect, and make memories with us.

👉🏾 Visit the link in our bio to register and learn more.

🌅 The Juneteenth Paddle just sold out… and we don’t want you to miss out twice.

There are still spots available for tomorrow’s FREE Family Paddle 101: Sunset Edition, and it’s the perfect way to close out the week together on the water.

Whether you stay for the entire evening or just stop by for a while, we’d love to spend time with your family as the sun sets over the river. No experience is needed, just come ready to relax, laugh and try something new!

✨ Tomorrow’s paddle is all about building confidence, making memories, and being in community.

Spots are still available… but if Juneteenth taught us anything, it’s that they won’t last long. 😉

Come see what everyone’s talking about and end the week with BKA on the river!

From participant to volunteer to Community Engagement Representative.

One of the greatest joys of this work is watching people grow alongside Black Kids Adventures.

Over the years, Alyssa Peltier has participated in adventures with her family, served as a volunteer, and now represents BKA in the community as our Community Engagement Representative.

In this role, Alyssa helps us say “yes” to more opportunities to connect with families, share our mission, and inspire others to discover the joy of getting outside together.

Her journey is a reminder that community isn’t just something we build through events. It’s something we build through people, and we love seeing Alyssa continue to shine.

We’re grateful for her willingness to serve and excited to see all that she will accomplish in this new role. Please join us in congratulating Alyssa and giving her a warm welcome! 💚

BKA’s Summer SUP Safety Tips

1. PFD (Personal Flotation Device) = Must Have
Yes, even if you’re a strong swimmer. Adults and Kids should always make safety a priority by wearing PFDs on the water.

2. Strap Up with a Leash
Your board is your lifeline, wear that ankle or calf leash so you don’t get separated if you fall. This is especially important in open water!

3. Get Low When It Gets Wobbly
Don’t panic when you feel shaky. Kneel or sit down to stabilize until you’re ready to stand again. It’s all part of the ride.

4. Paddle With a Crew
Never paddle alone, especially with kids. Group paddling = more safety, more fun, and more memories. Need a crew? can help! Join us this Friday for a beginner friendly paddle day.

Bonus: Show Up + Stand Tall
Representation on the water matters. Post your SUP pics, tag us, and inspire other Black families to stand tall on the water too! 💪🏾🌊
