Today, on National First Responders Day, we’re grateful for the dedicated professionals who show up when children and families need them most.

At the National Children’s Advocacy Center, collaboration with first responders is essential to our mission of helping children find safety, healing, and hope. Through partnerships with law enforcement and our Handle With Care initiative, we work together to ensure children exposed to traumatic events receive the support and care they need.

🏅A well-deserved honor for our founder, Bud Cramer!
 
Earlier this week, Bud Cramer was inducted into the Alabama Academy of Honor, a prestigious distinction recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of our state. With membership limited to 100 individuals, this honor is a testament to Bud’s extraordinary legacy of public service and leadership.
 
While Bud’s career as a district attorney and member of Congress has made a lasting impact on Alabama and our nation, his remarks at the ceremony focused on the work closest to his heart: creating the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) model.
 
More than 40 years ago, Bud envisioned a better way to serve children who have experienced abuse, bringing together professionals from multiple disciplines to ensure children receive compassionate, coordinated care. Today, that vision has grown into a movement serving children and families across the United States and around the world.
 
Reflecting on his many years of public service, Bud shared that his “true pride and joy” is seeing the CAC model develop and evolve over the past 41 years.
 
At the National Children’s Advocacy Center, we are incredibly proud to carry forward the vision of our founder.

🐾 Marvin Monday: A Little Learning, A Little Rest! 💙

Last week, Marvin’s handlers traveled to Vancouver for the International Courthouse Dogs Foundation® Conference!

This special gathering brings together professionals and facility dog handlers who are dedicated to supporting survivors of trauma and bringing compassion and comfort into the justice system.

Throughout the conference Kennedy and Jana attended educational sessions, made new friends, and connected with others who understand the incredible impact facility dogs have on the children and families they serve. They returned feeling inspired, grateful for this special community, and reminded of just how extraordinary these four-legged partners truly are.

And what was Marvin up to while his handlers were away? Enjoying a relaxing weekend at home with his family, of course! Even hardworking facility dogs deserve a little R&R! 🐾💤

Here's to continued learning, meaningful connections, and the amazing dogs who help make difficult days a little easier. 💙

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

At the National Children’s Advocacy Center, we know that children can be deeply affected by domestic violence, even when they aren’t the direct victims. That’s why collaboration with community partners like Crisis Services of N. Alabama is so important.

Together, we work to connect children and families with the support, resources, and care they need to begin healing and move toward a safer future. By working alongside one another, we help ensure families are met with compassion, understanding, and a coordinated response during some of their most difficult moments.

This month, we recognize survivors, honor their courage, and reaffirm our commitment to building safer homes and stronger communities for every child and family. 💜

This week, the National Children’s Advocacy Center was pleased to host Hannah Bryan, Legislative Aide for Congressman Dale Strong Representative Dale Strong , during her District visit.

Hannah manages Department of Justice and Homeland Security issues for the Congressman’s office. Because her portfolio intersects so closely with our work, we were glad to show her the NCAC in person for the first time.

Seeing the model firsthand reinforced the value the NCAC delivers: coordinated, child-focused response that serves children and families while supporting the professionals who protect them.

Thank you, Hannah, for your visit and your strong advocacy for our mission. We appreciate Congressman Strong’s office and their continued engagement with our work. 💙
