NBCT Spotlight 🤩

Another reminder that NBCTs make an impact even outside of the traditional classroom! 📚

Kewanee Murphy is a Counselor at Buckhorn Middle School and is applying her board certification to the entire school. "I am using data like never before to improve the delivery of social and emotional concepts to our students to promote well-rounded and productive future leaders."

As you can see, national board certification can fuel and empower any educator to take their job to the next level! 📈

🎶 I Saw The Sign... 🎶

and it opened up our eyes to even more awesome NBCTs in our area! Over the holidays and throughout the early part of the year we've been delivering NBCT signs to educators who have earned this achievement to take a small moment to celebrate them. 🎉

Marissa Weir teaches Pre-K at Madison City First Class Pre-K Center where even the littlest of littles benefit from an NBCT in the classroom. "Every day is an adventure, and every day I can find another reason to smile, laugh, and enjoy what I do." 😊

🎸Meet Another Rockstar NBCT! 🎶

This week we have Discovery Middle School's Kelsey Turner Cooper. She shared a story with us about how becoming an NBCT helped her emphasize creativity and collaboration!

"Last year I did a virtual lesson with a Missouri teacher so that our kids could join in breakout sessions to collaborate and build a class two-way table on data from their classes. I will never forget a student asking “How did you even think to do this kind of activity?” It stopped me in my tracks and I thought about that question for some time. I reflected on my teaching journey and noticed the difference between the 2016 Mrs. Cooper and the 2022 Mrs. Cooper. There are many differences, but the passion driving those differences is to be the best I can be every single day by never being afraid to try new things to bring a better learning experience to the classroom, and that is what the NBCT process is all about!"

🍎 Let's do a Teacher Tuesday! ✏️

This week we wanted to feature a Madison County Schools teacher who was recently announced as the school system's 2023 Secondary Teacher of the Year - and she's an NBCT!

Kelly Deiss is a teacher at Sparkman Ninth Grade School, and she shared how things she's learned throughout her certification process have been applied in her classroom and with great results!

"I now have regular data meetings with my students, and I have noticed that they are starting to take more ownership in their own progress...[One] student had very low math skills and tested at the 3rd grade math level as a 9th grader... She eventually brought her failing grade up to a C in the class... and it was a huge deal to this young lady... She was quick to admit that taking ownership of her own data and meeting with me regularly to discuss the data is what helped her change her attitude and work ethic. She became very proud of and involved in her work."
