Did you know there’s a buried underpass hidden beneath the West Belt Railway? https://ATOTB.org/underpass

Just steps from Shell Energy Stadium, a former Preston Street / St. Charles underpass once connected East Downtown and the East End. Today, it’s filled in and largely forgotten but it represents an intriguing opportunity to explore reconnecting neighborhoods that are separated by active rail infrastructure.

📧 If you’d like to see this opportunity explored, contact your City Council Member and ask them to support an engineering and planning study.
Sometimes the shortest path forward has been there all along.

Heads up, White Oak Bayou Trail users 🚧

A section of the White Oak Bayou Greenway near Shepherd is expected to be closed to foot and bike traffic daily from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. while repairs are underway.

Based on a notice shared on Facebook, the closure could last for up to 6 months. The work appears to be related to concrete panel repairs and is likely associated with Harris County Flood Control District activity in the area.

Plan ahead and expect to reroute during daytime hours.

⚠️ At this time, we have not seen an official signed detour in place.

We’ve reached out to Houston Parks Board, Memorial Heights TIRZ 5, the Greater Heights Super Neighborhood Council, and Houston Heights Association Land Use to request more information about the project scope, timeline, and detour plan.
