Apples grown from seed are genetic wildcards. Plant a seed from your favorite apple, and you’ll almost certainly get a completely different one.

That’s where grafting comes in. For centuries, orchardists have taken cuttings from great apple varieties and grafted them onto rootstock so the exact same apple can be grown again and again. It’s how incredible cider apples, with the perfect balance of acidity and tannin, have been preserved over generations.

Johnny Appleseed helped plant the beginnings of America’s orchard culture. Grafting helped protect and refine it. Cidermakers continue to celebrate it in every glass.

Today is a great reminder that even a small action can grow into something much bigger.

Plant one small "seed" today.
Support an orchard.
Try a new cider.
Share a cider with a friend.

You never know what might grow.
