Spaces still remain in our Brita Nelson workshop this Friday,
April 17. It's via Zoom, so you can participate from the comfort of your own quilting studio from anywhere in the world!

Brita is "The Questioning Quilter." She will be our lecturer at the Thursday Guild Meeting. (See the previous post about the meeting.) Check her out at questioningquilter.com.

9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
$40 members/$50 non-members

Go to our website (palmettoquiltguild.org) and click on events followed by the link to the April workshop to register.

This 6 hour workshop will be structured similarly to a “sew along”. There are 9 blocks, and Brita will teach each one in turn. She uses 2 cameras, one on herself and the sewing machine, and a second one pointing straight down at the cutting mat and pressing surface. She will demonstrate how to make the block along with little tips on accurate piecing and pressing. The students will then follow along and take turns showing the class how their block came out. The Zoom features allow her to answer questions immediately and help anyone who might be having a little trouble. As some students finish before others, she will show other possible layouts and talk about things like how to enlarge the pattern or use different colors and how these blocks might look in a finished quilt.

It's guild meeting week! The dust has settled from our wonderful quilt festival, and it's business, er--QUILTING, as usual again.

Meeting: Thursday, April 16th
11:30 AM-2:00 PM
Island Lutheran Church
4400 Main Street

Our speaker this month is Brita Nelson, "The Questioning Quilter." Her lecture is entitled “Now You See It and Now You Don’t.” We will learn about the magic and beauty of disappearing blocks with this interactive online lecture, demo, and trunk show. She will also show us how different block designs can be enhanced by color choices or slight modifications to make even more interesting quilts.

Mod Squad Bee met yesterday. Since we are all recovering from our quilt festival, there wasn't a lot of new show and tell, but Debbie rocked it with some past projects that are awesome! We also discussed numerous topics: What is the difference between an art quilt and a modern quilt? What quilt challenge does our bee want to take one? What techniques do you prefer for freezer paper applique? And of course, discourse on the quilt festival. 7 members in attendance, and a very nice gathering!

Here is the South Carolina Quilt that we made during the Welcome to Paradise Quilt Festival. This quilt will be a part the 250th birthday celebration of America in Fredericksburg, Virginia later this year. South Carolina was the 8th state of the original 13, so we are calling It "Palmetto State Number 8." Thanks to Marty who conceived of the idea and created the design and quilt. We are proud to represent our state in this event.
