Yesterday's sashiko mini-quilt workshop with Diana FitzGerald of banjoflannel.com was a delight. Diana came to us via Zoom, but she will be teaching in person at "Road to California" in January and "Quilt Con" (in Atlanta) in February. Take one of her classes if you can!

Most of these photos were screen shots. I was obsessed with the design process and ended up starting 3 individual projects, so that photo is from my work table.

These little pieces are designed to be matted and framed but can also be used as appliqué on clothing or bags.

Our booth at the 10th Crescendo celebration. This regional event, organized in honor of October’s National Arts and Humanities month, highlights, and showcases the vast array of arts, culture and history organizations, individual artists, performers, and authors residing and working on Hilton Head Island. We are honored to be a part of this!

Our guild outreach team visited Maye River Landing a couple of weeks ago and gave the lovely ladies in attendance smocks and scarves and then presented a trunk show of some of our members' quilts. It was a lovely visit and was appreciated by all.

Our October guild meeting and monthly workshop are coming up next week. Our speaker and teacher will be Diana Fitzgerald of https://www.banjoflannel.com. She will be joining us via Zoom, and her presentation will be "A Patchwork Sashiko Trunk Show."

Her workshop is "Patchwork Sashiko Framed Artwork", and it still has spaces. Registration is open to non-members as well as members. It's on Zoom so you can take the class from anywhere in the world! Your PQG Facebook administrator has been vacationing for 3 weeks and has neglected her duties. She shall rectify that in the next few days. First up: show and tell photos from our September guild meeting. These gals have been creating some stunning and fun pieces! The wonderful zigzag quilts and bags are the result of our summer "40 Fat Quarters" workshop. Love the variety!

Our monthly guild meeting is next Thursday at the usual location (Island Lutheran Church) from 11:30-2:00. More about the details tomorrow....

On Friday, July 17th, our own talented Mary Willis will be leading our workshop from 9:00-3:00 in the Palmetto Electric Cooperative community room in Hardeeville. 1 Cooperative Way. The workshop is simply called "40 Fat Quarters Quilt."

This quilt is constructed with 2-1/2” strips from 40 different fat quarters 18” x 22”. (You can use yardage, but scraps will not work unless you have 6 – 2-1/2” strips of each fabric, at least 16” long.) Mary has made this quilt twice. Once with Halloween fat quarters and once with 40 different solid color fat quarters. You’re looking for contrast with your fat quarters. You’ll want to choose a variety of lights and darks, patterns and scale. She thinks it could be fun with Red, White and Blue, Christmas, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Purple and Green, Black, White and Gray, etc. Use your imagination and have fun picking your fat quarters. Following the instructions, you will sew six panels together with up rows and down rows resulting in a quilt that measures approximately 72” x 78”. Supply list:

40 Fat Quarters

Sewing machine with ¼” foot

Rotary cutter with a new blade, cutting mat, and rulers

Optional but very useful – Stripology XL Ruler by Gudrun Erla of GE designs, or June Tailor Shape Cut Plus Ruler

Cotton thread, seam ripper, pins, scissors etc.

Iron and ironing mat (pressing direction is key for this quilt so all of your seams will nest)

Paper labels marked A, B, C, D, E, F.
