Some of you might know that residents are still required to self-identify their race on voter registration forms in many states across the country. For many prospective voters, this serves as an impediment to voter registration. For this reason, please take a moment to read the petition below. If you agree that South Carolina should remove the requirement to self-identify race from its voter registration form, we would be grateful if you took a moment to sign it.

: The Young Democrats of South Carolina (YDSC) is proud to announce the relaunch of its chapter for the Sea Islands Region. Based on Island, the chapter will be responsible for empowering young Democrats across Colleton, Hampton, Jasper, and Beaufort Counties.

“The re-establishment of the Sea Islands Region is incredibly important for the future of the ,” says Michael Edward Walsh, Region Chair for YDSC | Sea Islands Region. “Our local communities in , , , and Counties face a variety of long-term political, economic, social, and environmental challenges (e.g., change; income ; economic growth) that cannot be resolved without peaceful and effective government. Unfortunately, young people across Colleton, Hampton, Jasper, and Beaufort Counties have long been deprived of a political platform to make their voices heard on these issues. The goal of YDSC | Sea Islands Region is to provide these young people with the opportunity to become leaders on these issues in their local communities.”
