Due to a most unfortunate and quite unexpected set of circumstances, we have been forced to make the difficult but necessary decision to cancel this year's Deck the Hulls, scheduled for Saturday, December 14, 2024.
We were recently informed by our parent organization, (The United States Power Squadron National office,) that our current insurance carrier which provides coverage to us and other squadrons will not be renewed as of November 30, 2024.
While the National Office is attempting to obtain replacement insurance with a new underwriter by December 1st, considering both the complexity of the policy and limited time available, we are fairly confident that a new policy WILL NOT be in place before December 14, 2024.
Without insurance, we must curtail all activities, but in particular, Deck the Hulls. Without a policy in place, we simply cannot expose ourselves to the liability associated with hosting a nighttime water event.
While everything was shaping up for this to be our most successful parade yet, the circumstances are out of our control.
As disappointed as we are to be in a position that is none of our doing, we feel we have no choice but to cancel the parade now.
To our Sponsors, we are so grateful for your support, and we look forward to returning next year. We appreciate your enthusiasm and willingness to pick up where we left off last year.
To our boaters, we are so disappointed that we will not get to see your beautiful designs out on the water, but in consideration of all the prep work, time and money that goes into participating, we wanted to give you as much notice as possible.
To our spectators, we sincerely thank you. We could not do this parade without your enthusiastic support.
