CFL’s dedicated Community Investment team of Debbie Cahoon, Rose Gomez-Benitez, and Lisa Hodge have been busy over the past two weeks presenting scholarships at high schools in our four county service area. In addition to Bluffton High School (May 20) and HHIHS (May 26), the trio have presented scholarships at Cross Schools with board member Doug Wetmore (May 13); Battery Creek High School (May 18), May River High School (May 20); Hardeeville Junior & Senior High School (May 26); Hampton County High School with board member Faye Gooding (May 27); Ridgeland Secondary Academy of Excellence (May 27); and Beaufort High School (May 28). CFL administers over 60 scholarship funds and has awarded over $13 million in scholarships since our inception!

Jillian's Love Lives On Foundation, administered by CFL, is hosting a Community Open House/Fundraiser on Friday, May 29 (Jillian’s birthday) from 10:00 am-3:00 pm at Play Home Technology, 53 Persimmon Street in Bluffton. A special dedication and foundation announcement takes place at 12:45 p.m. and light refreshments will be provided. Jillian Angner, a mother of a young son, was tragically murdered in 2023. The gathering will mark the public launch of Jillian’s Love Lives On Foundation, created last year to support victims of violent crime in Beaufort County. Community Foundation of the Lowcountry’s Debbie Cahoon was honored to present 17 CFL-administered scholarships at Hilton Head Island High School's Senior Awards Program on Tuesday! In addition, three other scholarships administered by CFL were presented by scholarship representatives: Ethel’s Daughters Foundation Scholarship; Live Like DJ – Dwon Fields Jr. Scholarship, and Turtle Trackers Linda Zambelli Family Scholarship. Sixteen HHIHS students received at least one scholarship from CFL, with awards totaling over $100,000! Congratulations to all of the HHIHS scholarship recipients!

Community Foundation of the Lowcountry was honored to present scholarships at Bluffton High School’s Senior Awards Program on Wednesday. CFL’s Debbie Cahoon and Lisa Hodge, along with CFL board of directors’ members Dafina Ward and Tray Hunter, were in attendance to present the awards. CFL scholarship presentations included the Jim and Margaret Krum Memorial Foundation Scholarship; Dominque’s Musician Corner Scholarship; Helene Stoller Scholarship; Heritage Classic Foundation Scholarship; Joan and Wade Webster Scholarship; Mina Larson and Mandas S. Mulrain Scholarship; and Promise of the Lowcountry Scholarship. Many other CFL-administered scholarship funds had representatives on hand to distribute scholarships, including the Amazing Grace Sulak Scholarship, Live Like DJ Scholarship, the Palmetto Bluff Inspiring the Arts Scholarship, Ethel’s Daughters Foundation Scholarship, Burnt Church Distillery– Lowcountry Legacy Scholarship; and Turtle Trackers Linda Zambelli Family Scholarship. Women in Philanthropy (WIP), a giving circle fund of the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry, awarded $162,475 in grants to seven deserving local nonprofits at its annual Grant Awards Luncheon at Country Club of Hilton Head today! The theme of WIP’s 2026 grant cycle is “Bridging the Gap: Employment, Basic Needs, and Family Stability,” and the 2026 grant recipients are Bluffton Jasper Volunteers in Medicine; Family Promise of Beaufort County; Hilton Head Deep Well Project; Lowcountry Legal Volunteers; Neighborhood Outreach Connection; Second Helpings, and The Children’s Center. The luncheon also featured a meet and greet with 2025 grantees along with inspiring and emotional presentations. The luncheon was a testament to the positive impact that WIP has on this region’s nonprofits and the community! Dominique's Musician Corner Scholarship Fund, administered by CFL, will hold its Annual Walk for Dom on Saturday, May 16 at 8:30 am at Shelter Cove Community Park on Hilton Head Island. There is no entrance fee for the walk, though donations are encouraged. The event is in memory of Dominique Williams, who was tragically killed at the age of 17, and supports the scholarship set up in his memory to assist qualified recipients in pursuit of a post-secondary education in performing arts.
