Atrial Fibrillation Association - US We are a non-profit organization which provides information, support and access to atrial fibrillation (AF) treatments. www.atrialfibrillation-us.org

Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) is the most common heart rhythm disorder (arrhythmia). It occurs when chaotic electrical activity develops in the upper chambers of the heart (the atria). As a result, the atria no longer beat in an organised, regular rhythm, so the patient’s pulse is irregular and as a result, the pumping of the heart is less efficient.

In atrial fibrillation AFib, the heart’s upper chambers quiver instead of beating normally. This causes an irregular heart rhythm and less efficient blood flow throughout the body.

AFib can increase the risk of stroke, heart failure, and other serious complications - yet many people do not realise they have it.

Symptoms may include palpitations, fatigue, dizziness, breathlessness, or sometimes no symptoms at all.
