At United Ministries our vision is that everyone have access to resources and opportunity to thrive and we believe that transformation takes place together.

Eviction prevention is an opportunity to intervene before a family reaches a point of crisis. It meets the immediate needs while investing in the future of a family’s long-term stability. 
 
It can mean avoiding homelessness. Sparing a child from adverse childhood experiences. Taking the first step toward better housing. Or simply staying in a home that’s already affordable.
 
Since 1970, United Ministries has stood with individuals and families facing housing instability. This year, we launched our Eviction Prevention Program to meet a need that keeps growing. Countless families trusted us enough to bring us their eviction notices and ask for help.
 
The results from our pilot year: 31 families, each supported with up to $1,500, stayed stably housed.
 
Here’s why that matters — it costs a landlord $40 to file an eviction. That single filing can follow a family for 7 years.

We believe that this rental assistance delivered at the point of an eviction notice is a targeted, stabilizing intervention that lets a family hold onto its self-sufficiency instead of absorbing the full weight of displacement can really change trajectories.
 
As the need continues to grow and change, so does our commitment to grow and respond.

Prevention is an opportunity to intervene before a crisis changes the course of a family’s life.

It can be preventing homelessness.
It can be a child spared from an adverse childhood experience.
It can mean access to better housing—or simply the chance to remain in an affordable home.

Prevention looks different for every family. But the goal is the same: keeping people safely and stably housed.
Over the last year, 1,221 applicants reached out for help, and 31 families received eviction prevention support.

Those numbers remind us of both the magnitude of the need and the power of prevention.

The need is growing. So must our response. We have an opportunity to grow as an agency and as a community—and invest in prevention as an investment in a families stability and future.

Happy National Senior Citizen Day! United Ministries Emergency Assistance staff and volunteers serve 40 seniors every week during the winter months, providing $150 in critical utility support to each participant. Each week, reaching capacity, yet there are still seniors with outstanding needs. 

Did you know, with the support of our generous donors we provided nearly $50,000 in utility assistance over five months through our HEAT Program to 279 seniors.

This Friday, August 21st, we celebrate National Senior Citizens Day - and there is no better way to begin than by hearing from one of our own.

Meet Mrs. Rosa. Last year she was one of 279 senior adults served through our Emergency Assistance Heat Program — a program that pays utility bills for senior neighbors so they can stay warm when temperatures drop and costs climb.

In her own words, Mrs. Rosa shares how things have changed, the challenges seniors face on fixed incomes, and what it means to have support when winter bills become impossible to manage alone. Her insights help us better understand our neighbors and their need.

This National Senior Citizens Day, we are inviting you to help us wrap our arms around 167 senior neighbors this winter. A gift of $150 keeps one neighbor warm for the season. Our goal of $25,000 ensures no one has to choose between heat and groceries.
