Help us celebrate Ryan Thackray’s one-year anniversary with Community Foundation of Greenville!

With more than 15 years of experience in philanthropy and development, including leadership roles with Presbyterian College, The Family Effect, The Meyer Center, Peace Center, and The Nature Conservancy, Ryan has made an incredible impact in his first year with us.

What Ryan enjoys most about his role is starting with a simple question: What do you want your philanthropy to accomplish? From there, he helps donors create meaningful, practical strategies to turn their goals into lasting impact.

One standout achievement this year was helping develop the guidelines and processes that launched the New Leaf Fund. Beyond his work at the Foundation, Ryan also served as Class Representative of Leadership Greenville 52 and joined the board of the South Carolina Children’s Theatre.

Congratulations, Ryan, and thank you for a fantastic first year!

We are excited to share the work of SHARE Head Start in our recent Giving Matters article in the Greenville Journal.

For 60 years, Sunbelt Human Advancement Resources, Inc. has worked to help people and communities exit poverty and achieve economic stability. Its programs include assistance with housing, utilities, social mobility and other needs. The nonprofit offers child development and family support services through its Head Start and Early Head Start programs.

“Head Start prepares children and their families for school readiness and the next steps. We encourage family engagement and goal setting,” Shannon Vaughn said. “It’s not just the child, it’s the whole family.”

In 2025, SHARE received a Margaret Linder Southern Endowment grant of $30,000 from Community Foundation of Greenville to support positive guidance towards self-regulation and resilience.

Community Foundation of Greenville’s annual Capacity Building Grant process will begin soon! The application opens on June 1st and is due on July 17th. These grants support an organization’s ability to establish and/or maintain a solid operating structure and develop and sustain good governance practices.

We believe that when capacity building is successful, it strengthens and improves an organization’s ability to achieve its mission, sustain itself over time, and have a quantifiable impact on the community in which it serves.
