Meet Kaya! Where are all the husky lovers? This sweet, silly girl is looking for a new home through no fault of her own. Her new family will be so lucky to have her.

Kaya is, in her owner's words, "snuggly, playful, high-energy, beautiful, and very loving." She has a quirky, fun-loving, opinion-expressing husky temperament, and if you are a fan of huskies, malamutes, and such, you will absolutely melt when you meet her. Like most huskies, Kaya will do best in a home with a yard that has a secure physical fence; six feet tall would be best because she is most definitely an escape artist.

Kaya has not lived with other pets or kids, but when she sees dogs or people, she behaves in a playful, friendly, sometimes excited way. She is housetrained and does not need to be crated (and would prefer not to be) -- she just needs a little time to settle into a new home before being left alone for an extended period of time, and then she should do fine.

This gorgeous "woolly" (longhaired) husky is about 4.5 years old. She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. She is overall healthy. Her only possible health issue is urinary crystals. We are working with Kaya's foster and our vet to determine whether she needs to be on an Rx food or would do fine with a good-quality (but non-Rx) food.

Kaya is looking for a new home because her loving owner has had some ongoing medical issues that have made it impossible for him to care for his beloved pup. She found her way to a temporary foster care provider a few months ago with the goal of reuniting her with her "dad" soon. Now, however, it has become apparent that her dad is going to need a much longer recovery than originally anticipated and he has determined that it is in Kaya's best interest to find a wonderful new person/family who will love her and care for her for the rest of her life. We (FFOCAS) are helping Kaya's owner rehome her safely.

Interested? Please get in touch via email: [email protected]. We'll ask you to fill out a rehoming application to help keep this process as safe as possible for all involved -- especially Kaya!

Meet Your New Best Friend Peyton Jake! He's great with dogs and cats! No young children please :)

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier/Boxer
Age: 12 years old, Senior
S*x: Male
Color: Brindle - with White
Weight: 60 lbs (current)

Meet Peyton Jake, a 12-year-old, 60-pound male boxer/pit/whippet mix (best guess). Peyton is losing the family he has lived with for his entire life due to serious changes in the family dynamic and through no fault of his own. This sweet boy is energetic and playful, he loves cuddles and attention, and he enjoys socializing with other dogs. The ideal home for Peyton would be with a family that enjoys walks and outings. Although he has lived with and done beautifully with their now 2.5-year-old child and with other children, he may do best in a family with no small children simply because he is a senior and, as we all know, toddlers and other young kids can be hard on dogs.

In the words of Peyton Jake’s mom: “Peyton is highly snuggly and likes to hang on the couch with his family. He currently has a fenced yard and loves to be outside and go on hikes.” However, he previously lived in an apartment for several years and did great. (He is not a big barker.)

In general, Peyton’s recall is great and he walks well on leash. However, if he is not fresh on training, he will try to pull during his walks. Positive reinforcement resolves this temporary issue.

Typically, when he meets unfamiliar people, Peyton either ignores them or greets them in a friendly manner. When our volunteer met Peyton, he was immediately friendly, happily leaning on her and soliciting pets and attention.

Although Peyton has never lived with another dog, he has met and befriended many dogs throughout his life. Recently, Peyton has boarded with a neighbor who has a young German shepherd. Peyton and the shepherd get along beautifully and are best buds. He has also stayed for long stints with a family friend who has cats, and he gets along just fine with them, hanging out and sleeping on the same couch. Overall, Peyton appears to be one of those dogs who can slide right into a new home and get along with everyone as if he’s always been there.

Peyton’s favorite things are playing fetch or tug-of-war, gnawing on chew toys, hiking, swimming, playing with other dogs, and getting belly rubs. His dislikes include having his nails trimmed (though he does tolerate it!), having his teeth brushed, and being left home alone. Although Peyton is crate-trained, he is not a fan of going into the crate.

This good boy is fully house trained and up to date on his vaccinations and heartworm testing. He was recently evaluated by the vet, who found no serious health concerns. He will have a dental cleaning prior to adoption.

Peyton’s mom is heartbroken to lose the dog she describes as “the bestest boy and an awesome companion.” We (FFOCAS) are helping her safely rehome him.

Interested? Please get in touch via email ([email protected]) or through adoptapet. We’ll ask you to fill out a rehoming application to help keep this process as safe as possible for all involved—especially Peyton Jake!
