Myopia, or near-sightedness, is a growing epidemic with more children being diagnosed for it and at earlier ages which often leads to more severe levels as children age. The World Health Organization projected in 2017 that 50% of the world population may be diagnosed with myopia by 2050.
According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, behavioral changes such as increasing outdoor activity time and utilizing more natural versus artificial lighting may help with myopia progression.
Also, specialty therapies such as atropine protocols and corneal reshaping specialty contact lenses are provided to slow progression of myopia in children and adolescents.
