Today is National Ombudsman Day, and we’re celebrating the volunteers who show up for residents in skilled nursing and assisted living communities.

Our Area Agency on Aging ombudsmen are there to listen, help residents understand their rights and make sure their concerns don’t go unheard.

It's Fall Prevention Month!

Our Area Agency on Aging care coordinators recently attended ROOTED 2026, a summit focused on fall prevention and helping older adults stay safe and independent at home.

The summit gave our team an opportunity to learn from others in the caregiving field, discover new ideas and valuable resources to support older adults and the people who care for them.

Our very own Chief Aging Services Officer, Shakita Johnson, also had the opportunity to present the first annual NextGen In Aging Award to 18-year-old Austin Jones, founder of the Walk It Forward Foundation. Through his work, Austin helps collect and distribute more than 1,000 mobility devices to people who need them.

We’re proud of the work our care coordinators puts in every day to support older adults and the people who care for them, and we’re always glad to see them learning, connecting and bringing that knowledge back to our community.

Learn about caring resources for individuals experiencing domestic violence. Join us online or in person at the library. Lunch will be provided for in-person attendees.

Help United Way of Tarrant County and the City of Arlington review grant proposals from local nonprofits. It’s a great way to get involved in your community while gaining hands-on experience reviewing grant proposals.

3. United In Service | Oct. 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

To everyone who has donated, volunteered, spread the word, partnered with us or simply believes every child should have books of their own: thank you.

Because of you, more than 484,000 books have been given to children in Tarrant County through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Your generosity helps bring the joy of reading into homes, spark imaginations and create special moments between children and the people who love them.

Dolly often called her Local Imagination Library Partners the “true heroes” of her program. We’re so grateful to have a community that continues that spirit of giving.

Thank you for helping us carry on Dolly's legacy by giving back to the children of Tarrant County.

There’s no one path to creating more opportunities for women and girls.

That’s why our Women United Advisory Council brings together people with different experiences, perspectives and connections to our community. At our latest gathering, we heard from local leaders, caught up with familiar faces and talked about how we can continue showing up for the next generation of women and girls.

We’re especially excited to have our new Women United Chair Jordan Stimpson and Co-Chair Carly Tatum leading the way. This was their first event in their new roles, and they brought a thoughtful group of women together to hear from local leaders and talk about how we can create more opportunities for the next generation.

A big thank-you to Jill Caughron from Texas Ballet Theater, Cassie Poss from Fort Worth Sports and Tiffany DiPasquale from Hotel Drover for sharing your perspectives and being part of the conversation.

As we say goodbye to summer, we’re sending a special thank you to Ashelynne Tatum for spending a second summer with UWTC as our Marketing and Communications Intern.

Ashelynne worked with our Marketing Team to help spread the word about the programs we offer and connect people with important resources.

She helped us brainstorm, bring ideas to life, and even sprinkled some of her artwork around the office along the way!

Now, she’s back at Texas Tech, finishing up her last few semesters studying Creative Media Studies. We’re excited to see where her creativity takes her next.
