We’re proud to share that we’ve been named one of the Top 3 Certified Development Corporations in Ohio! 🎉

This recognition reflects the incredible small businesses we have the privilege to support every day. Small businesses are the backbone of our communities—driving innovation, creating jobs, and strengthening our local economy. We’re truly fortunate to be part of an industry that celebrates and empowers entrepreneurs to grow and succeed.

We’d also like to congratulate Owen Pohl of JPMorgan Chase and CCDC’s Board for being recognized among the Top 20 Lenders of the Year—an outstanding achievement! 👏

Here’s to continuing to champion small business and making an impact together.

Huge thanks to all of the Ohio Certified Development Corporations (Growth Capital Corp, Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority, Valley Partners, Anchor Financial, Alloy Development Co., Ohio Statewide Development Corporation, CityWide Development Corporation, Cascade Capital Corporation part of Medina County Economic Development Corporation) and our partners at the Small Business Administration District Office for coming together at the Ohio CDC Annual Meeting!

It was great spending time talking through real‑world challenges and ideas — from processing and turnaround times, to closing reviews, technology tools, SMART scores, and opportunities to better support one another across the state. The open conversations around collaboration, innovation, and even how AI might fit into our work made this meeting especially valuable.

We truly appreciate everyone’s willingness to share, listen, and work toward making the 504 program stronger and more efficient for Ohio’s small businesses. Looking forward to continuing the conversation and building on this momentum together! 🙌

“Pouring Passion into Growth: Benfield Wines Raises a Glass to Expansion”

What started as a heartfelt gesture—Rob “The Wine Guy” Benfield making wine for his wife Julia—has blossomed into one of Swanton’s most beloved destinations. After years of perfecting his craft and encouragement from friends and family, Rob turned his hobby into a business in 2015. From a cozy 140-square-foot sunroom to the historic 9,000-square-foot Pilliod Opera House, Benfield Wines () has grown into a thriving winery, complete with a tasting room, event space, and a reputation for exceptional wines.

Rob’s hands-on approach and passion for quality have made Benfield Wines a local favorite. Sourcing grapes from California and crafting unique blends, the Benfield family has created more than just a winery—they’ve built a community gathering place. With offerings that go beyond wine, including local craft beers, premium bourbons, and even adult slushies, there’s something for everyone at Benfield Wines. And now, with demand soaring, it’s time for the next big step: expanding operations to make room for more guests and events.

To make this vision a reality, we partnered with Timothy DeCant of F&M Bank - Archbold, OH to help Benfield Wines finance renovations that will transform the historic opera house into an even more inviting destination. From relocating the kitchen for better efficiency to tapping into city water for a second-floor event space, these upgrades will help Rob and Julia uncork new opportunities for growth. We love to support businesses that turn passion into progress—because when local dreams get room to breathe, the whole community raises a glass.

"From passion project to thriving winery, Benfield Wines has something for everyone to enjoy." - Julia Benfield

Community Capital Development Corporation recently hosted a Lunch & Learn on Environmental Review of Commercial Real Estate, giving attendees a chance to dig into this important topic. The January 20, 2026, session focused on how environmental reviews fit into commercial real estate projects—and why they matter more than many people realize.

Led by Curt Spence, P.E., of Spence Environmental Consulting, Inc., the discussion broke down environmental due diligence in a practical, easy‑to‑follow way. Curt shared real‑world insights on how a solid environmental review can help protect loans, reduce risk, and keep projects moving forward without unexpected surprises.

The event also created space for great conversation and networking among industry professionals. Attendees left with useful takeaways, a better understanding of environmental reviews, and a renewed appreciation for how smart planning supports successful commercial real estate transactions. It was another example of CCDC’s ability to bring people together to learn, connect, and build confidence around complex topics.
