Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read announced the Oregon Campus Voting Challenge as students prepare to return to campuses ahead of the 2026 general election. Twenty colleges and universities are participating at the program’s launch, creating a network that stretches from large public universities to community colleges and private institutions across the state.
Rather than promoting candidates, political parties or particular outcomes, the challenge is intended to help participating institutions give students more opportunities to understand elections, become familiar with voting and develop habits of civic participation.

ICYMI: West Virginia Lt. Governor Randy Smith joined state leaders to announce the West Virginia Responsible Data Center Development Plan, a unified legislative and executive vision for the state’s digital and economic future. The framework, developed in partnership with the West Virginia House and Senate, establishes state-level oversight and strict development criteria for hyperscale data centers.

Governor Patrick Morrisey joined Senate President Randy Smith, House Speaker Roger Hanshaw, and leadership from the West Virginia Department of Commerce today at a joint press conference to announce a unified legislative and executive vision for the state's digital and economic future.

Pennsylvania Lt. Governor Austin Davis announced a one-time $20M investment to support the Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act program, reporting that the administration has invested more than $100M since 2023 to support cleanup efforts at more than 150 hazardous sites.
“This work doesn’t just protect our environment — it creates opportunities for economic growth, producing more jobs in manufacturing, construction, conservation, and environmental services,” said Lt. Governor Davis.

Mississippi Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann recently created a Senate Select Committee on Cybersecurity to study the security of state and local government computer systems and review how Mississippi prosecutes cybercrime. This is the second cybersecurity effort that Hosemann has driven through the Senate this year, and lawmakers have said they plan to keep working on the measures. At a time when municipal water systems in seven states have suffered cyberattacks, the need to guard against malicious hacking has taken on greater urgency.

Massachusetts has become the second state to appoint a heat resilience officer to help the state reduce heat impacts and coordinate with local communities, with Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll saying: “Cities and towns are already seeing the impacts of hotter summers, and we want to make sure they have the support they need. This new role will help communities plan ahead, reduce the risks of extreme heat and put solutions in place that make a real difference for residents.”

Katie Schlick, who worked for the White House climate adviser, will help the state reduce heat impacts and coordinate with local communities on resilience. The move comes amid historic heat waves across the world.
