Last week, Duke Energy awarded a $75,000 Emergency Rapid Response grant to the Freestore/Foodbank to help communities in Ohio and Kentucky recover from the severe storms, power outages and resulting property damage. The Freestore gave Action Ministries $5000 from this grant. We are so thankful that we live in a community that cares about its neighbors and shares resources to help those most impacted by unforeseen events such as the unusual weather we all experienced. As these pictures show, Action Ministries has food to help any low-income families in northern Kentucky and we welcome all who need the help. Thank you, Duke Energy and the Freestore/Foodbank!!

Thanks to our partners at Hathaway Court Apartments in Covington, we were selected to receive a $7500 grant from Glick Philanthropies’ Community Relief Fund! This grant will help us buy a few non-food items for the residents we serve at Hathaway Court, Arcadia Park Senior Apartment Community in Florence, and Colony Apartments in Latonia. Each month, three local churches deliver our food to some of the residents who are unable to come to Action Ministries for our regular food distribution. We are happy to support this delivery to about seventy-five of our senior friends and especially thank the Foundation for giving us the opportunity to give them a few extra items such as bath tissue, facial tissues, or laundry detergent.

Action Ministries is very grateful to have received a $10,000 grant from the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels to help fund our Food For Thought program.

Food for Thought is our attempt to provide food for some children in the Kenton County School District and at Arnett Elementary in Erlanger. Because of food insecurity in their homes, they rely on the free meals they receive at school during the week, but do not
have access to enough food on the weekends. The packs we provide include two cans of Chef Boyardee pasta meals, two cartons of fruit juice, two tubs of applesauce, two
boxes of cereal, a carton of milk, a granola bar, three packages of peanut butter sandwich crackers, two small slim Jims, and a Cow Tale. As school begins in August, we will be making 350 bags available each week. Food for the bags will cost about $5 each.

The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels has chosen Action Ministries to be one of the 318 nonprofits in Kentucky who were awarded a portion of $2.6 million in grants which will impact more than 4 million Kentuckians. Grants were made possible through
donations from Kentucky Colonels from throughout the Commonwealth and around the world who choose to exercise the honor of being named a Kentucky Colonel in a meaningful way.

According to Executive Director Sherry Crose “It is the Honorable Order’s purpose to strengthen the lives of Kentuckians, and we do that through this grant program, called the Good Works Program. We are grateful for the contributions from Kentucky Colonels
to this program and together we can help Kentucky nonprofits with their mission to enrich and reinforce the lives of Kentucky residents.”

The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels is a 501 (c) (3) entity dedicated to supporting charitable activities throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The organization is governed by an all-volunteer Board of Trustees. Since 1951, the organization has pursued its mission through annual grants totaling $75 million to more than 1700 nonprofits. The “Kentucky Colonel” commission is an honorary title granted by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Contributions made by those honored with the title, go to the grant program and Colonels know that each grant is
thoroughly vetted by the trustees and staff. Though the corporate name is The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, most know it by its long-term trademark, KENTUCKY COLONELS. Visit kycolonels.org to learn more.

On March 21, five Kentucky Colonels came to Action Ministries to help us with “spring cleaning” the warehouse. Twice a year, members of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels participate in service projects in their area and we are so grateful that, for a
second time, we were chosen to be a site. They thoroughly cleaned the carts we use to move products around in the warehouse and take the groceries to the cars. We use blue plastic crates in the warehouse to store food of all sorts – produce, packaged,
canned and frozen and the crates get nasty! The Colonels cleaned those, too. And,they pulled out the skids so they could dust the racks and clean the floor. A lot of work for five people in three hours. The HOKC have been good partners to us for about
twenty years and it was a real pleasure to meet and work with them a couple of weeks ago.

We are very pleased to announce that the Freestore/Foodbank has awarded Action Ministries a $1300 Capacity Grant. The money will be used to purchase two steel work tables, six utility carts, and two plastic folding tables to use in the warehouse. The steel tables will be used to stage filled bags of groceries for large families and as a work table in the Distribution Room. The folding tables are replacing two of our current tables which have outlived their usefulness. Three of the utility carts are also replacing carts that can no longer be repaired and three are increasing our fleet of useful carts so that we can more efficiently deliver groceries to our clients’ cars. We’re proud of our partnership with the Freestore and appreciate all they’ve done for us, including providing free and deeply discounted groceries and produce, and now helping us with this Capacity Grant. We are blessed in the Greater Cincinnati area to have the Freestore to help us feed our communities.

We are happy to share with you the good news that Millstone Fund has honored Action Ministries with a grant of $20,000 to help us purchase food for distribution to some of the low-income families in northern Kentucky. The number of client visits is steadily climbing. In March we served 1127 families. This was 7% higher than March 2025. Our total budget for food for 2026 is $142,000 for both the general distribution to families and the weekend packs for the school children. Millstone Fund focuses on improving the quality of life of people throughout Greater Cincinnati by supporting nonprofit organizations that work to better our community. We are proud that they have chosen us to further their mission.
