Today, OEC Action Fund’s Spencer Dirrig delivered testimony on HB 706, urging lawmakers to put common-sense guardrails on data center growth so communities aren’t left footing the bill in higher energy costs and strained resources.

Ohio can lead on innovation and protect people, but only if we get this right. We’re fighting for transparency, accountability, and a clean energy future.

Today, our VP of Government Affairs, Spencer Dirrig, testified against SJR10, a proposed amendment that would restrict our voting rights. A new Energy and Policy Institute report found investor-owned utilities paid CEOs $626 million in 2025, including $36.6 million to AEP's CEO, the highest paid utility executive in the nation.

That’s more than the average Ohio worker would earn in 550 years, all while customers faced shutoffs and mounting debt.

Ohioans deserve affordable, reliable clean energy, not corporate excess paid for by our utility bills. Read the full report: https://ow.ly/VUJQ50YRKha

On Friday, OEC Action Fund VP of Government Affairs, Spencer Dirrig, joined Representative Sean Brennan to celebrate the Ohio Supreme Court’s ruling that submetering companies functioning as utilities must be regulated by the PUCO. This means customers will finally get the transparency and oversight they deserve from these companies - a major step in protecting Ohioans and halting the unfair and unregulated reselling of utilities across the state.

This week, OEC Action Fund Vice President of Government Affairs, Spencer Dirrig, testified in support of SB 298, legislation that would enable virtual net metering in Ohio.

Virtual net metering would allow multiple consumers to share the benefits of local energy generation while encouraging reliability and cutting costs. SB 298 would be a major support for local governments, hospitals, schools, and businesses facing high energy costs. SB 298 is a practical step toward lowering energy costs, expanding choice, and improving reliability.
