We couldn't be prouder! Our Executive Director, Shelly Douglas, just received the Conservation Stewardship Award from Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District. Rebuilding our urban tree canopy is no easy task, especially with limited resources, but Shelly tackles it every single day with so much heart. She's constantly working behind the scenes to build partnerships and make sure our volunteers have what they need to plant trees in Central Ohio. Congrats to Shelly, as well as David Celebrezze and Karen Mogren, for this well-deserved honor! 🌳

We're planting 48 trees at Glenwood United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and we'd love your help.

Holes will be pre-augered, so the work is simple and no experience is needed. When you arrive, we'll show you how to set, backfill, and mulch each tree.

A few things to know:
🌧️ Rain or shine
🧤 Shovels, gloves, and all supplies provided
👟 Wear sturdy close-toed shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty

This planting is in partnership with the City of Columbus's Tree Assistance Program (TAP) grant. Sign up at the link below and bring a friend!

Another Litter League season is in the books! We're so proud to have been part of Litter League this year, and even prouder of Trash Party for collecting 1,704 bags and winning the nonprofit division.

Green Columbus is Trash Party's fiscal sponsor, and we always love seeing our partners thrive!

We're a few weeks out from our first tree giveaway of the fall. 🌳

Haven't grabbed your free tree yet? This is your sign. Already did? Save this post so you know where you're headed on pickup day:

📍 South Side: 300 E. Livingston Ave.
📍 Franklinton: 667 Sullivant Ave.
📍 Linden: 1142 E. 17th Ave.

Every tree is a free 4 to 6 foot Ohio native, grown at our Linden nursery and ready to go in the ground. Pick from red maple, red oak, black cherry, sycamore or tulip poplar.

Why it matters: 70% of Columbus's trees are on private property. The tree in your backyard actually counts.

Come get your tree: https://www.greencbus.org/freetrees

Thanks to American Forests, the City of Columbus, Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, Keep Columbus Beautiful and The Columbus Foundation for making this happen. And a special thank you to our volunteers, who grew every one of these trees.

Columbus ArborFest wrapped up this past weekend, but the fight for our urban forest is year-round. 🌳

Green Columbus Executive Director Shelly Douglas and Assistant City Forester Chad Hoff presented on the importance of trees in our communities and what the City and nonprofit partners like Green Columbus are doing to achieve the 40% tree canopy goal recommended by the Urban Forest Master Plan by 2050.

We were delighted to have a full room of tree advocates and concerned Columbus residents who came together to learn, connect, and support the future of our urban forest.

Columbus ArborFest is a wrap for another year, and we're so grateful to everyone who came out to celebrate our trees last weekend.

Before the big day, our Executive Director Shelly Douglas stopped by Good Day Columbus to talk all things trees, alongside ArborFest planning committee member Zachary Traxler and Green Columbus's most famous tulip poplar.

The festival's behind us, but the work isn't. Columbus's tree canopy is at 22% right now, and we're working to reach 40% by 2050. Here's the thing: most of our urban forest grows on private property, which means the trees you plant in your own yard are some of the most powerful in the whole city.

Didn't make it out this year? No worries. Give the interview a watch, and remember: that tulip poplar from the studio is one of five free native trees you can still reserve from us: www.greencbus.org/freetrees
