Romeo needs our help! Please share this cute boy to help him find an adopter, foster-to-adopt, or even a long-term foster.

Romeo is a one-year-old pit bull mix who is healing from a broken leg. He was helped by Friends of the Shelter earlier this year. He's been in a loving foster home waiting to meet his forever family, but his foster needs to return him to the shelter later this week. So, he needs to find a new soft place to land, and he would love a place he can run.

This cutie is a shelter volunteer favorite. They say he is a happy, wiggly guy who lights up the moment he sees a friendly face. He's enthusiastic, loves being with people, and greets attention with full-body enthusiasm. Treats make him extra motivated, and he already knows sit.

Romeo has struggled with dog introductions due to reactivity (and lack of exposure due to the time his leg was healing). Unfortunately, he was attacked by a loose dog this week. He is okay, but it may take a while for him to feel comfortable around other dogs. He’s had a lot of success in homes where he is the only pet.

If you’d like to meet Romeo, please reach out to [email protected] to make arrangements with his foster. And please share him. He's a sweet dog who deserves a chance to find his forever family.

❤️Luma❤️ Microchips work!

Meet Luma! 💙

When Luma was 3 years old, he got out of his family’s yard and went missing. Despite their efforts to find him, years passed without any answers.

Five years later, one of our Animal Control Officers picked up a stray dog running loose and brought him to the shelter. Thanks to a microchip, we quickly realized that dog was Luma and were able to contact his family.

After five years apart, Luma was finally reunited with the people who had never forgotten him. 🐾

We have no idea where life took Luma during those missing years, but his story is such a good reminder of how important microchips can be. They help reunite lost pets with their families every single day.

If your pet has a microchip, make sure your contact information is registered and up to date!

We’ll also be hosting a FREE Microchip Clinic soon, so if you'd like to get your dog microchipped, keep an eye on our social media for details! 🧡

Please share this post! The pups are still waiting! These 4 adorable Beagle puppies need some help. These cuties arrived at the Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center feeling very sick from parvovirus. You can tell from these photos that the pups did not feel well for their intake photos. The shelter medical team has been treating them, and, thankfully, they are now recovering well! They're ready to move to a foster home for a few weeks while they finish their recovery and are able to be spayed/neutered.

Because they will still be shedding the virus for a few weeks, it's important that all dogs in the foster home be up-to-date on their vaccinations and that there are no puppies in the home. If you're interested in learning more about fostering (or fostering to adopt) these adorable puppies, please reach out to the shelter medical team at [email protected].

The pups would love it if you'd share this post to help them find a foster home!

Update on Rosie! Last Saturday during Village Valuables, we were excited to have the opportunity to catch up with the mom of one of last year’s Friends of the Shelter dogs. In 2025, Rosie was at Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center and having some health issues. Friends of the Shelter paid for her medical examination and testing, which, unfortunately, confirmed that Rosie had severe kidney disease. Even with a poor prognosis, Rosie was adopted by her foster mom in December, just in time for Christmas!
We are thrilled to hear that Rosie is a big ball of energy and never passes up a game of fetch or a long walk. She loves everyone she meets and is a huge people lover. She’s very smart and loves learning new tricks (especially when treats are involved!).
Rosie's health is being carefully managed by her vet. She's on several medications and a specialized diet to help with her kidney disease. Despite her diagnosis, she is full of life! Her mom says she is the best dog and brings so much joy to everyone she meets! We're glad to hear that Rosie has no idea she’s sick and is living life to the fullest.

We’re so thankful for your financial donations to Friends of the Shelter that ensure we’re able to fund the medical care for sick shelter dogs like Rosie.❤🐾🐶🐶🐾❤

You made Village Valuables a huge success for the shelter dogs! Thanks to everyone who came to our sale Saturday in German Village. Even with spotty rain, we had an incredible turnout for a record-breaking sale. We loved seeing so many of you, including our dog visitors (some in their cute raincoats)!

We’re excited to share that you raised over $6,900 for the medical care of the sick & injured dogs at Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center! That’s an astonishing $2,400+ more than last year! That amount, combined with what we raised from Purses & Pearls the week before, brings the May total to $29,946—a record for the two events and over $10,000 more than last year!

So many people made Saturday's event possible. First, thanks to the small but mighty Friends of the Shelter volunteer team who got up before dawn on Saturday to set up for the event so we were ready for shoppers by 8 am! A huge thanks to Lou for hosting us again this year! Finally, thanks all of our supporters who donated hundreds of purses and jewelry items and all of the shoppers—we needed all of you to ensure that our May events were a success. Your generosity allows us to save the sick & injured shelter dogs. In this case, it really DOES take a village! ❤🐶❤ Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for donating & buying!
