Last week, at this time, Women Just Like Me had the privilege of launching its third LRVH Youth Scholarship Initiative, aptly referred to as the Cotillion, a platform designed to empower young individuals to reach their maximum potential.

I am deeply humbled to lead this organization and mentor these exceptional youths, and I remain grateful for the divine guidance that underpins our success.

I am delighted to commend the 18 young individuals who demonstrated remarkable courage in stepping out of their comfort zones to invest in themselves.

The 2026 Program Outcomes are a testament to the initiative’s impact, with key highlights including:

⭐️100% student access and completion
⭐️8 students receiving 529 educational awards and substantial scholarship support for post-secondary pathways
⭐️Comprehensive curriculum focused on leadership and life skills
⭐️8 hours of community stewardship and service that inculcates responsibility, leadership, and community connection.

These outstanding achievements were celebrated on April 25th with over 175 families, city leaders, and supporters in attendance.

We remain committed to our mission of investing in our youth and highlighting their accomplishments, rather than focusing on negative news about our community. We urge continued support in raising the bar for our young people, who undoubtedly can and will excel.

Over the next few days, I get to take time to reflect on a truly life-changing and impactful event that God blessed myself and incredible Tomica Warren Livingston ❤️ to lead and steward, the LRVH Youth Scholarship Initiative and Cotillion.

Excellence was evident throughout, and the outcome was exactly what I had envisioned. Our Kings and Queens truly shone! They showed up with courage and conviction, embodying the very spirit of the program - an uplifting celebration of confidence, cultural pride, respect, and self-worth. I’d like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors, facilitators, MC and Co-MC, and speakers Shayla Favor and Dontavius L. Jarrells, who inspired the room with wisdom, truth, and transparency, a refreshing respite from the norm.

I’m also deeply grateful for the unwavering support of our Cotillion team, including Lori Lindsey Sarah Wilkes, Sandra Dallis Anderson, Views By Stu, Marlon McElroy, Asisa Chiles, and Shatoya Wilburn, who have been pillars of strength since day one. 📣

Who is familiar with classical music? We are selecting classical pieces for the violinist to perform at the LRVH Cotillion and have an extensive list to consider. Classical music is not my area of expertise, perhaps Mozart’s works? Notes from the Bridgerton soundtrack are a must as we sip tea and watch the performance of our Kings and Queens on April 25.

My Most Esteemed and Gentle Readers,

Pray attend with the utmost urgency, for the hourglass hastens, by sundown on Sunday, the TWENTY fifth of April, the opportunity to secure one’s place at the illustrious Love, Respect, and Value Her Cotillion shall gracefully draw to a close.

It would be remiss not to reflect upon last season’s distinguished voices, the honorable Carlos Dallis and the formidable Latyna M. Humphrey, who addressed our Kings, Queens, and esteemed court with uncommon clarity and conviction, leaving impressions most enduring.

Yet THIS SEASON promises an elevation most splendid. We are privileged, indeed, honored beyond measure, to present our Keynote Speaker, the esteemed Shayla Favor. A woman of formidable intellect and unwavering dedication, she has served with distinction as a Columbus City Councilmember, presiding over matters of Housing, Health and Human Services, as well as Criminal Justice and Judiciary.

Her tenure has been marked by bold, compassionate work: safeguarding marginalized communities, advancing equitable policies, and championing landmark initiatives such as the Housing for All legislative package, comprehensive gun safety measures, and meaningful reforms addressing housing insecurity, youth justice, and public safety.

On this most-anticipated evening, she shall deliver a stirring discourse on purpose and leadership, illuminating the path that led her to her present role as City Prosecutor.

Further delight awaits, as she shall also grace the Exclusive Pre-Event alongside the distinguished Dontavius Jarrell.
