We are excited to share that one of Columbus Landmarks’ 2018 Most Endangered Sites Tour featured properties has been awarded the Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit to support its renovation! 🎉

The Salesian Boys and Girls Club, originally constructed in 1927, was built as an Athletic Club, Auditorium, and headquarters for the Knights of Columbus. Designed by the prominent local architectural firm Richards, McCarty and Bulford, the five-story building is richly ornamented in the Beaux Arts style, a hallmark of the era.

In 1968, the building was acquired by the Salesian Society and has since served the community as a Boys and Girls Club. This important investment recognizes the building’s architectural and cultural significance and helps ensure its continued preservation for future generations.

Moments like this remind us why identifying and celebrating endangered historic places matters. We’re grateful to see this building’s story continue — and to everyone who helps make preservation wins possible along the way. 🏛️💛

On Friday, we had the joy of celebrating two decades of one of Springfield’s most treasured landmarks, the Westcott House, designed by the iconic architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. This event was a beautiful reminder of how architecture, history, and community come together to tell a shared story. The house was restored between 2001 and 2005. The house opened to the public in October 2005.

A special thank-you to our Founding Trustee and 2021 Legacy Circle Inductee, Bob Loversidge, Principal at Schooley Caldwell, and our current Board Member Kalpa Baghasingh, Principal & COO at Schooley Caldwell, for inviting Columbus Landmarks to be a guest at their table, which included 3 current architecture students at Miami University. And we were truly honored to hear from Wright’s great-granddaughter, Melissa Galt, whose keynote offered a powerful perspective on legacy and design.

20 years ago, Westcott House was saved through the cooperative efforts of the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy, the Turner Foundation, and the Westcott House Foundation, then a newly-formed non-profit that continues to operate the house to this day. Over 600 volunteers, craftsmen, supporters, and professionals with incredible expertise and commitment came together to save the landmark. Schooley Caldwell was part of that team!

We are grateful to everyone who continues to champion preservation. Inspiring moments like this move our work forward.
