Today is our Day of Giving! A day where we’re calling on our Central Ohio community to come together and help us continue making a lasting impact across our neighborhoods. Our goal is to raise $10,000 in just ONE day, and every dollar helps strengthen our community.

Here are some quick numbers on how your donation impacts the lives of your neighbors:

🏊 $25 teaches life-saving skills to a child in a 6-week session of swim lessons
☀️ $50 boosts skills and friendships with STEM and outdoor fun at Summer Day Camp
💪 $100 gives a child year-round team play through 8 youth sports sessions to stay active and build skills
📚 $250 provides two children with accessible, high-quality before and after school child care for a month
🛌 $500 provides a family with five nights of safe shelter and a warm bed on their path to stable housing

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. At the YMCA of Central Ohio, we are committed to child safety in all of our spaces. This is highlighted in our Praesidium Accreditation, which is the highest honor for Youth Development organizations.

We as Y staff, members, community members and volunteers need to build on the work we’ve done and develop the three habits in child abuse prevention:

Know: when we understand the common practices of those who harm you and the best practices to stop them.
See: when we can recognize the warning signs or behaviors that signal abuse or risk for abuse.
Respond: when we take action in response to behaviors we recognize as being inappropriate or questionable.

Together, let’s commit to protecting the youth in our YMCA and our communities by practicing the three habits of child abuse protection each day. Because when we know and understand how abuse happens, see the warning signs, and are prepared to respond quickly to prevent it, we create a culture of child abuse prevention that results in even safer environments for kids to reach their full potential. This program teaches young athletes the fundamentals of the game while helping them become great teammates. Kids will build confidence, develop social skills, and learn our core values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

We’re grateful to leaders on both sides of the aisle – including Dick Durbin and James Lankford – for leading the passage of a bipartisan resolution honoring the YMCA of the USA and 175 years of impact across the country.

With support from a broad coalition of senators and representatives like Mike Quigley, Chuck Edwards and Chris Pappas, this recognition reflects the role the Y has played in American life for nearly two centuries.

The Y has pioneered innovations like basketball and group swim lessons and provided safe housing, youth development programs and early child care, continually evolving to meet the unique needs of communities nationwide.

Today, with nearly 2,600 locations serving more than 10,000 communities, the Y reaches 11 million adults and 6.5 million children each year. We all aim to accomplish the same key goal: create spaces where people of all ages and backgrounds can connect, belong and thrive.
