Here in Columbia, survivors and their families helped shape the Jewish community we know today. Their lives are a testament to resilience, courage, and the enduring strength of the Jewish people.

Did you hear about the hate graffiti that took place near Shop Rd last month? Come here about recent incidents nationally, regionally, statewide, and in Columbia related to antisemitism and anti-zionism.

Secure Communities Network (SCN), the official safety and security organization for the Jewish community in North America, has over 50 security directors and more than 130 security and intelligence professionals operating across the United States and Canada. SCN has a headquarters in Chicago. Our local SCN director, Matthew W works closely with the FBI, CIA, Columbia PD, Richland County PD, to help keep our community safe.

What types of activity are we seeing on-campus, downtown, and on the USC campus? Could attending a security training help you stay prepared and vigilant?

Thank you to everyone who joined us last night for our Guess Who? Community Dinner and archive identification project!

It was so much fun to reminisce together as we worked to identify and preserve the people, stories, and memories captured in photographs from throughout our Federation’s history. From pictures hanging on our walls to the scrapbook collections, each image helped tell the story of our community and the generations who helped build it.

This week, Columbia Jewish Federation had the privilege of representing our community in Washington, D.C. at the JFNA Security Advocacy Fly-In alongside Jewish leaders from across the country.

Together, we met with congressional offices to advocate for stronger federal security support for Jewish institutions and other faith communities, including continued funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program. These conversations were not only about policy, but also about sharing the very real experiences our Jewish communities are facing today.

We were proud to share the stories from our community, the challenges we continue to navigate, and the importance of ensuring that our Jewish institutions can remain safe, vibrant, and open for future generations.

We are grateful to JFNA for organizing this important effort and thankful to the many leaders who continue advocating for the safety and strength of Jewish life nationwide.
