For the month of September, SAFY of Charleston is recognizing Ms. Karen Frye. Her SAFY caseworker, Crystal stated the following:

“It is my pleasure to recommend Ms. Karen Frye for Foster Parent of the Month for the unwavering love and dedication she provides to the Level 3 child in her care.

During escalated behaviors, Ms. Frye does not turn her back on the child. She sits with her through difficult emotions and remains by her side until she has recovered and regained calm. She has stated several times, “I can’t, I will not put in my notice for this child because I know I’m the only person she has.” Her actions honor that commitment, reminding the child that even her hardest moments will not cause Ms. Frye to give up on her.

Ms. Frye consistently reminds the child that being in foster care is not her fault and that she is worthy of love, smart, kind, and strong. Through these affirming words and her steady presence, she helps the child see herself beyond her circumstances.

She also reports crises promptly and maintains consistent, responsive communication with the case manager. Ms. Frye is a joy to work with and deeply deserving of this recognition. She gives this child more than a place to live; she gives her the reassurance that she matters and does not have to face difficult moments alone”.

Lowcountry Food Banks annual Walk to Fight Hunger event on Saturday 9/26/26! We are so appreciative to Lowcountry Food Bank for inviting us to join their amazing event and being a great community partner! It was great to spread awareness and meet other non-profit/for-profit organizations in the Lowcountry! SAFY of Charleston is excited to join again next year!
