Modern Dance Company & School of Dance located in Cleveland serving the communities of Northeast Ohio through weekly classes for adults, youth dance classes, performances, workshops and more!

Join every Tuesday morning from 9:30-10:45 AM for Contemporary/Modern!

Unlike our company classes, this class is open to dancers of all levels who are interested in exploring contemporary and modern movement, not just professionals.

Together, we’ll dive into the fundamental elements of space, time, and energy through a qualitative approach to movement. Dancers will explore a variety of modern and contemporary techniques while developing greater awareness of weight, effort, spatial relationships, physical presence, and movement clarity.

Whether you’re looking to refine your artistry, deepen your technical foundation, or simply reconnect with movement, this class offers a welcoming space to grow and explore.
We can’t wait to dance with you! 🪩 Sign up through the link in our bio. 🔗

Summer training is in full swing at The Dance Hub! 🙌✨ Whether you’re returning to dance or trying something completely new, there’s a space for you here. 🪩

On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings (9:30–11:00 AM), our professional-level Company Classes continue with an incredible lineup of guest instructors from across the Northeast Ohio dance community. This Summer we’re thrilled to welcome Teagan Reed, Elyza Morckel, Tori Zegarelli, and Victoria Lynn Awkward, alongside TMP faculty. You can expect rigorous, inspiring training in both Modern/Contemporary and Functional Ballet + Conditioning, designed to support technical clarity, strength, alignment, and artistic risk-taking.

On Tuesday mornings, join Madison Burris in all levels contemporary/modern (9:30-10:45 AM). This class explores the core principles of space, time, and energy, emphasizing a qualitative approach to movement. Dancers will engage with a range of modern and contemporary techniques, focusing on weight, effort, spatial and physical awareness, and movement clarity.

Other class offerings:
House with Madison: every other Friday @ 7:00-8:00pm starting June 12th
- House is a form of street dance that focuses on footwork, groove, and a light torso. Dancers will explore the core grooves of house dance, finding their own personal rhythm within the movement.

Yoga for Dancers with Kailey: Saturday @ 10:00-11:00am June 27th, July 18th & 25th
- Yoga for dancers is a specialized practice combining strength, flexibility, and mindfulness to enhance technical performance, prevent injuries, and aid recovery and relaxation.

Improv Jam wirh Kailey: Friday July 17th 6:30-7:45pm
- Join us for an evening of movement and creative freedom as we explore the endless possibilities of improvisation through groove, connection, and play.

CodeMoves has been heavily influenced by community feedback gathered through an open survey of dancers, choreographers, and creative technologists conducted during the first phase of the project.

The project’s goal was to develop a suite of hybrid tools that are accessible to choreographers without technical backgrounds, while also demonstrating their creative potential through rehearsals to performance. As the project unfolded we developed more clarity around the goals of:

1. Cultivating a foundation of general education for the dance community regarding the nuances of AI technology;

2. Establishing a suite of frameworks and web-based tools that empower artists to explore the integration of AI within their choreographic process.

Join us for our presentations of CodeMoves in Akron, Ohio on June 6th and Detroit, Michigan on June 11th.

Experience how technology and movement can come together in thoughtful, human-centered ways.

Join us in Akron, Ohio on Saturday, June 6th, and in Detroit, Michigan on Thursday, June 11th, for CodeMoves: weaving technology in the creative practice.

Over the past 18 months, TMP Associate Director Elyse Morckel, alongside collaborators Lauren Bedal of Los Angeles and Miryam Gabrielle of Detroit, have explored how AI technologies can support and expand choreographic practice while remaining accessible to artists without technical backgrounds. Shaped by community feedback from dancers, choreographers, and creative technologist partners, the project has grown into a deeper mission of educating the dance community around the nuances of AI and building practical tools that artists can use within their own creative processes. Join us this June for a lecture and performance experience featuring original works by Miryam Gabrielle and Elyse Morckel.

Special thanks to The Knight Foundation New Work Grant for providing funding support for this research.

We extend sincere thanks to the dancers, collaborators, and supporters who helped bring CodeMoves to life.

Premiering at CodeMoves

(y)our utopia by Elyse Morckel

Nostalgia, utopia, escapism. Our brains often process the past through rose-colored glasses while imagining a fantastical future that feels better than our present. This fascination with idealism has become intertwined with the digital world. When we recall memories, the mind subtly reshapes and polishes them, altering events until they resemble a dream. This piece brings that internal dreamworld to life, placing the shifting landscape of memory and imagination before the audience. What do our dreams look like when brought before the truth of reality?

Come see (y)our utopia in Akron, Ohio June 6th and Detroit Michigan on June 11th. Use the link in our bio or click https://www.themovementproject.org/codemoves to grab tickets and learn more about the project.
