New Avenues to Independence, Inc. The Path to Dignity and Achievement. In 2000, the Parents Volunteer Association changed its name to New Avenues to Independence, Inc.

A group of dedicated parents founded New Avenues to Independence as the Parents Volunteer Association in 1952 to provide educational, vocational and recreational experiences for children with disabilities whose only option was to live in institutions. Recognizing the social injustice imposed upon individuals with disabilities forced to live in institutional settings, the founding parents were dete

rmined to establish alternatives. As their children grew and their needs changed, the founders incorporated Parents Volunteer Association in 1956 and pursued community integration through group home settings to provide pleasant living environments for individuals with disabilities and promote the development of daily living skills, physical abilities and interpersonal skills. Thus, in 1971, the Parents Volunteer Association became the owner and operator of the first private, non-profit group home for individuals with disabilities in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. In the subsequent five decades, the Parents Volunteer Association continued to grow, purchasing eight additional homes and expanding services to include community-based care, transitional respite, childrenโ€™s programs, therapies, nursing support, recreational opportunities and Mainstream Housing rental assistance throughout Northeast Ohio. to reflect the changing demographics of the individuals served and the array of services provided. In 2005, returning to our roots, New Avenues established a Day Services program that expanded in 2007 to include vocational services linking individuals with disabilities with meaningful employment opportunities from area employers.

Inclusion Services celebrated their Summer Bash with a fun-filled afternoon at the Hub! Music filled the room as friends gathered to enjoy delicious pizza, refreshing juice, and great company. As lunch wrapped up, anticipation began to build for a special surprise.

When Outback Sky arrived, excitement quickly spread throughout the crowd. Eyes widened with wonder and smiles lit up the room as participants learned about a variety of exotic animals and had the opportunity to interact with them up close. From curious questions to enthusiastic cheers, the experience created unforgettable moments for everyone involved.

Thank you, Outback Sky, for helping make this year's Summer Bash a memorable day filled with discovery, excitement, and joy!

What a great night at the ballpark! โšพ

Individuals from our homes spent the evening at Forefront Field watching the Lake Erie Crushers face off against the Mississippi Mud Monsters. A huge thank you to Eric Butler and First Federal Lakewood for making this experience possible through their generous sponsorship. Everyone had an amazing time creating memories, enjoying the game, and spending time together in the community!

โœจโšพ Happy National Friendship Day! โšพโœจ

Friendship was a home run when residents and staff from three of our ICF Homes came together for a Lake County Captains game at Classic Auto Group Park with Inclusion Services!

From sharing a suite and cheering on the Captains as they faced the South Bend Cubs to enjoying snacks, laughter, and great conversation, the experience was about so much more than baseball. It was a wonderful opportunity to build connections, strengthen friendships, and create lasting memories together.

At New Avenues to Independence, we believe some of life's best moments happen when they're shared with friends. Today, we're celebrating the friendships that bring joy, support, and a sense of belonging to our community every day. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’™ Happy Disability Pride Day!

As Disability Pride Month is celebrated throughout July, Disability Pride Day honors the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990, a landmark civil rights law that expanded protections, accessibility, and opportunities for individuals with disabilities across the U.S.

Today, we celebrate the achievements, contributions, and experiences of individuals with disabilities while recognizing disability as a natural and valuable part of human diversity. Disability Pride Day is an opportunity to promote inclusion, accessibility, self-determination, and equal opportunity for all.

At New Avenues to Independence, we empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to reach their fullest potential. Through our programs and services, we support children and adults with developmental disabilities in building independence, pursuing personal goals, and actively participating in their communities.

On this Disability Pride Day, we celebrate the voices, accomplishments, and experiences of people with disabilities and reaffirm our commitment to helping build communities where everyone is valued, included, and empowered to thrive.

Join us in empowering individuals with developmental disabilities to live, learn, work, and participate fully in their communities. ๐Ÿ’™
