🎶 A Chico summer tradition is back!

Since 1978, Friday Night Concerts have brought our community together in the heart of Downtown Chico. Hosted by the Downtown Chico Business Association, this free concert series continues to be a favorite summer tradition for residents, visitors, and local businesses alike.

Every Friday through August 28 (excluding July 3), enjoy live music from talented local and regional bands at the Downtown Plaza from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

This year's series also features a new Friday Night Food Feature, highlighting Downtown restaurants and encouraging concertgoers to enjoy local dining while taking in the music.

Whether your business is located Downtown or elsewhere in Chico, community events like Friday Night Concerts help strengthen the local economy and contribute to the vibrancy that makes Chico an attractive place to live, work, and visit. Events that activate our community help support tourism, encourage local spending, and reinforce the strong sense of place that benefits our entire business community.

Grab your friends, bring the family, and enjoy an evening of live music, local food, and Downtown Chico this summer.

What are small businesses across the country experiencing right now, and how does that compare to what we’re seeing here in Chico?

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently released its Q1 2026 Small Business Index, offering insight into business confidence, hiring expectations, inflation concerns, and investment trends nationwide.

A few key takeaways:
📊 53% of small business owners say inflation is their biggest challenge right now
💼 37% expect to increase investment in the next year
📈 Many businesses still anticipate revenue growth despite ongoing uncertainty

While this report reflects national trends, many of the insights mirror comments we regularly hear from Chico businesses. From workforce challenges to long-term planning decisions, local businesses continue navigating a changing economic landscape with resilience and determination.

In case you missed it 📝

Last week, the Chico City Council reviewed recommendations related to Chico’s post-settlement homelessness response strategy as the current Warren v. City of Chico settlement agreement approaches its January 2027 expiration date.

Following the discussion, the Council voted 7-0 to move forward with several key recommendations, including:
• Continuing Genesis Shelter operations with updated accountability standards
• Closing the alternate shelter site once the settlement agreement expires
• Pursuing additional funding opportunities
• Exploring phased enforcement strategies and municipal code updates
• Developing a High Utilizer / Service Resistant Team focused on coordinated intervention and accountability

During public comment, the Chico Chamber voiced support for a balanced approach that reflects Chico’s compassionate spirit while also prioritizing public safety, accountability, economic vitality, and long-term sustainability for the community.

As these discussions continue, the Chamber will remain engaged and committed to advocating for practical, thoughtful solutions that support local businesses, residents, and the broader Chico community.
