What happens to the items that Chico State students no longer need when moving out of the residence halls? They go to local charities like ours! πŸ™Œ

We have a fantastic partnership with Chico State- Housing. After the semester ended, we filled a box truck with bedding items, towels, clothing and household items for our guests moving into permanent housing. These are critical supplies for us so that we can make a house feel like a home for folks in need as they take that next step after experiencing homelessness.

Special thanks to Chico State's Amanda McAllister-Knutson (pictured here with our team members Dustin, Marcel, and John) for coordinating this pickup and helping us load up the truck with this awesome donation!

Wow, are we impressed with the amazing work that the volunteers at Chico Project SAVE are up to! They have donated and shipped valuable medical and dental supplies to over 260 countries, and they operate a warehouse here in Chico to help people in need in our community, offering walkers, wheelchairs, adult incontinence briefs, and more.

We are so grateful for their partnership and their donation of items to support of the seniors and adults in our programs. πŸ™πŸ»

Special thanks to Alma, Susie, Courtney, and Janice Walker (pictured here with our team) for teaching us about your history and taking us on a tour.

Spring is in full swing, and that means that it's time to get to work on the garden! 🌱 Our fantastic partners at Grace Community Church generously chose us as one of their nonprofits to support on "Serve Chico Day" and installed over 100 bags of bark in our garden and other landscape areas outside our shelter.

This undertaking was a lot of hard work and we are so grateful for their time and support! Thank you to Jen Burleson for making this happen, and for church volunteers Bill, Patty, Connie and Luke for coming out to help. πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎπŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎ

Grace Community Church supported 10 local organizations on their Serve Chico Day with similar projects. We are so grateful for their support and work in our community!

We took a short field trip this month and visited the team at the P.A.T.H. Plaza in Red Bluff. We got to meet their residents (including some very sweet dogs and cats) and learn about how they have responded to the homelessness crisis in their small town by operating a low-barrier navigation center.

Homelessness is a regional issue and we are proud to partner/work alongside others working to get people off the streets and into housing.

Thank you to the PATH - Poor and the Homeless Tehama County Coalition for hosting us and to Joyce, Jimmy, Michael, James and Truelena for being our greeters/tour guides. Most importantly, thank you for all that you are doing to help people in need!

We have a small book shelf here at the Torres Shelter, and we often run out of books for our guests to read. We are so happy to share that we have partnered with the Chico Friends of the Butte County Library who will be dropping off books to fill our shelves every month. Nancy Leek (pictured here with our team member Robyn) came by with our first delivery recently and it was so exciting! πŸ“š Thank you to the folks at the Chico Friends of the Butte County Library for all that you do to support our local libraries, including our humble little library at True North! πŸ“–

We're still seeking donations for our bedding drive! πŸ›ŒπŸ’€πŸŒ™

We want to give a shoutout to our friends at Bidwell Presbyterian Church for helping us get closer to our goal! Longtime supporter Mary Matheson, part of the church's mission team, came by with a gift of $1,000 to purchase new twin bed sheet sets for the Torres Shelter!

We are about halfway to our goal of getting 500 sheet sets and blankets. (We can accept used as long they are clean and in good condition-no stains or tears.)

Thank you to all of our community members who have helped us with this drive so far! You rock!

Many of the children at our Aurora North home for families love to do artwork while their parent(s) are meeting with their case managers. They often sweetly gift their creations to others. All of these drawings were made by children in our programs and gifted to our amazing case manager/intake coordinator, Loralyn.

One of the girls drew herself holding hands with Loralyn, making sure she added Loralyn's signature bun. This made Loralyn and the girl's mother laugh with delight. It was the cutest thing and it made their day.

We are grateful that our programs help families and children, and for all of the support from our community that makes it possible for us to give them a second chance. πŸ’™ truenorthbutte.org/donate
