Community Housing Improvement Program, Inc. CHIP is a non-profit providing affordable housing and related services to Northern California. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.

CHIP serves seven counties in California’s north central valley. Although CHIP no longer does rehabilitation CHIP continues to build single-family self-help housing. In addition, CHIP builds affordable multi-family housing, manages the properties it builds as well as properties owned by others, and has raised money for water and sewer projects. CHIP has constructed more than 2000 units of housing in Northern California and the agency has been acknowledged as an innovator and leader, particularly on rural housing issues.

🏘️ The waitlist for 2-, 3-, and 4-bedroom apartments is now open at Rancho de Soto Apartments in Orland! While these apartments primarily serve farm workers, we currently have temporary waivers that allow non-farm worker households to apply. Income limits and other screening criteria still apply, but eligible non-farm worker households are welcome to submit an application at this time.

Last month, Wells Fargo volunteers joined CHIP and residents at Cypress Lane Family Apartments for a day of service, teamwork, and community building. We're proud to work alongside partners who invest their time, resources, and energy in building stronger communities for Northern California families.

Proposition 1 would invest $11.25 billion to build and preserve affordable homes for veterans, seniors, working families, and others impacted by California's housing crisis. It would also fast-track more than 40,000 homes that are already approved and ready to be built.

Through CHIP’s Self-Help Housing Program, future homeowners contribute hundreds of hours of labor, helping build not only their own homes but also those of their neighbors.
