Built in 1883 by Dr Oscar Stansbury, the home stands today as it did at the turn of the century.

The Stansbury Home is a Victorian home built by Dr. Oscar Stansbury in 1883. The home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 and in 1991 was listed as supporting the South Campus Historic District. While the home is now the property of The City of Chico, the Stansbury Home Preservation Association is charged with the responsibility to fund and maintain the 19th century historic residence in it’s original state. The Stansbury Home is located at the corner of Fifth and Salem streets and is open for public tours on Sat. & Sun. 1-4pm; donations of $5 per adult and $3 for children 12 and under are requested.

🌹 A New Face in the Garden! 🌿

We’ve been blessed with Payton Walton, a horticulturist and fellow member of the Butte Rose Society, who is helping us redesign the gardens at Stansbury House!

Together, we’re selecting plants suited to our local climate while honoring the types of plants available during Libby Stansbury’s era (1860s–1890s). 🏡🌷

Stay tuned as our historic gardens grow! 💚

🌿✨ THE FRONT GARDEN GOT A FACELIFT! ✨🌿

Our historic front garden has been getting a little 💅 Victorian makeover, and we’re loving the fresh new look! Because apparently even an 1883 house needs to keep up appearances. 😉

Come see the refreshed garden AND step inside for a tour of the Stansbury Home this weekend!

🏡 Tours: Saturday & Sunday | 1–3 PM
💵 $5 adults | $3 children

☀️ BUT… there’s a catch: Mother Nature has been turning up the heat! 🥵 Tours will run from 1–3 PM as long as temperatures remain safe for our volunteers and visitors. If it gets too hot, we may have to close early for everyone’s safety.

So come early, enjoy the garden, tour the house, and pretend you’ve stepped back into Victorian Chico… before the California sun reminds us what century we’re actually living in. 😂🌞

And you’re in for a treat because Christine will be giving tours! 👒✨ Trust us—you don’t want to miss her! She knows her Stansbury history and is ready to spill the (Victorian) tea. ☕😂

🌞 Due to the extreme heat, the Stansbury Home will be closed this weekend to help keep our volunteers and visitors safe.

☀️ Weekend Closure Notice 🏛️

Due to the expected heat, the Stansbury Home Museum will be closed this weekend, Saturday, July 11th and Sunday, July 12th. The comfort and safety of our volunteers and visitors is always our top priority. ❤️

We're hopeful that, with the continued support of our incredible community, we'll be able to complete our goal of installing air conditioning by the end of the year! ❄️ Every step toward that goal helps preserve the Stansbury Home and makes it a more comfortable place for everyone to enjoy.

While we won't be open this weekend, we encourage you to spend some time exploring our wonderful downtown! 🍕🛍️

Tomorrow (Saturday, July 11), don't miss Downtown Chico's Slice of Chico It's a great opportunity to support local businesses, enjoy delicious watermelon 🍉, and experience everything that makes Downtown Chico so special. 🎉
