Junior Leadership Development Program

Junior Leadership Development Program Our program provides leadership workshops, seminars, and mentors, to at-risk youth. Twitter: The second phase is career mentoring.

The Junior Leadership Development Program (JLDP) was founded by a team of four Chico State students and is part of a recognized California non-profit know as the ATOL Foundation. The four students realized leadership is a trait that is learned. Many times seminars and workshops on leadership are attended by students who do not necessarily need them. The students that actually do need these leaders

hip programs are not always able, willing, or given the opportunity to attend these events. Therefore, the JLDP team created a way to bring a leadership seminar to those whom need it most, youth facing difficult challenges. The JLDP team worked to develop a leadership curriculum designed to help students understand their core values, leadership skills, strengths, and develop goals for their future. Table Mountain High School, located within the Butte County Juvenile Hall, opened their doors to the JLDP team to put on their first program. After having great success, the team completed four additional programs at the Juvenile Hall and has expanded to Fairview High School in Chico. Working with Fairview High School, provided the opportunity for the JLDP to develop an additional mentoring program between Chico State students and the students of Fairview. Currently, the Junior Leadership Development Program runs a week-long course split in two phases: The first is Leadership and Life Skills workshops which focus on building self confidence, communication skills and decision making. Both phases of the program are put on by Chico State students that see the benefits of helping youth while developing their own leadership skills. Since 2011, more then 150 "at-risk" students have participated in the program. Graduates of the program receive Certificates for Identified Leadership. If you would like to make a difference and become a member of the JLDP Team, feel free to contact us!

On February 22, 2018, Umpqua Bank honored the Junior Leadership Development Program (JLDP) with the grant of $2,500 from its Community Giving Fund to help support the non-profit organization’s work with students who are identified as being at-risk of not graduating from high school. A primary goal of the Umpqua Community Giving Fund is to aid youth up to age 18 in achieving high school graduation, followed with a clearly defined post-secondary path toward college, tech and career readiness. Umpqua Community Giving Fund only accepts proposals from direct-service programs that seek to achieve these goals. Over the last six years, JLDP has worked with more than 300 youth throughout Butte and Tehama counties, and has successfully guided 96% of them to timely high school graduation, with more than 85% of them going on to enroll in post-secondary educational pursuits. Umpqua Bank has been a significant supporter of JLDP in that work for the last three years, and is a valued community partner. We at JLDP are deeply grateful to Umpqua Bank for their confidence in, and support of our stated mission: to ensure that every youth is provided the skills to overcome situational obstacles, and given the resources and opportunity to achieve the utmost in their personal, educational and community membership goals.
