Help us recognize a caring adult who has made a positive difference in your life.

“One healthy adult can completely change the trajectory of a life,” said Dr. Sésha Zinn, NVCF Cares director. “The single strongest protective factor for youth is having a positive relationship and engagement with at least one healthy adult. We call this the Power of One. We want to honor those adults who make a difference locally at a Power of One celebration this fall.”

Zinn said examples of mentors for recognition might include teachers, coaches, family members or any adult who has made a positive difference in a person’s life. Anyone – young people or adults – can submit nominations for the Power of One awards until Oct. 16. Visit nvcf.org/powerofone to nominate and learn more.

In honor of Indigenous Peoples Day, our office will be closed today.

We encourage everyone to learn more about the Indigenous populations that have inhabited the area for centuries by checking out the Meriam Library Special Collections and University Archives through Chico State. The database is free to the public and can be found online as well as in person at the Meriam Library.

The photo in this post features a Mechoopda woman with children at the Old Indian Church and is from the Meriam Library Special Collections.

The Care Team formed in response to trauma from the Camp Fire and other challenges young people were facing in Butte County. It provides free services to youth and families who are struggling with su***de.

Care Team coaches provide young people with one-on-one mentorship. The coaches work with their families to navigate their darkest times and give youth connections to new peers.

The Care Team took its first call Oct. 4, 2021. Five years later, the youth su***de prevention program has received 961 calls.

The program has connected 898 individual youth, siblings and caregivers to NVCF Cares support, like the Care Team and The Crew. We are are honored to serve our community in this capacity.
