Yesterday we had the amazing opportunity to visit the BPAN research laboratory at Stanford and visit with Dr. Knowles and some amazing researchers working hard on finding treatment for BPAN symptoms. We also presented the money we raised during our 3rd annual “Duet Day” fundraiser that was matched with the help of donors from the NBIA Million Dollar Bike Ride fundraiser 🤩 what a special and exciting day! 🤍✨🙏 so much hope on the horizon! 🥲

Vacation mode activated!! Duet spent two glorious weeks in Cabo and enjoyed walking around the resort property, showing everybody her alphabet cards and pointing to the cactuses. She loved getting in the water and moving around in the lazy river!! 😍 🏖️ ☀️ she also went on a boat cruise, and enjoyed time on the beach!!

BPAN is a form of NBIA 💕 here is some information about Duets rare disease 🫶

🧠 What is NBIA?

NBIA stands for Neurodegeneration with Brain Iron Accumulation. It is a group of rare, inherited neurological disorders in which excess iron builds up in specific areas of the brain, particularly those responsible for controlling movement.

There are currently 10 recognized forms of NBIA, each caused by changes in different genes. Although each type is unique, they share common neurological features and can affect movement, speech, vision, cognition and other aspects of daily life.

While there is currently no cure, researchers around the world are working to better understand NBIA and develop treatments that improve the lives of those affected.

At the NBIA Disorders Association, we're committed to advancing research, supporting families and providing trusted resources to our community. Together, we're creating hope for everyone affected by NBIA. 💙

Because of this incredible community, Duet Day raised more than $20,000 through ticket sales, sponsorships, and our silent auction. Thanks to a matching grant from NBIA, that impact has already grown to $40,000 for research at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford.

Now we’re just $5,000 away from our $50,000 goal.

For those who don’t know, Duet is a Chico girl living with BPAN, a rare neurological disorder that may shorten her lifespan. The mission of Duets Across America is to help fund research that could lead to better treatments and, one day, a cure.
